Will the liberty movement have any lasting impact on the United States? Will we be restored to a Constitutional Republic or will we be mired in the pits of socialism? Will a new Paul-esque candidate rise to prominence? Will our government be significantly reformed?

I think in 20 years we will have either won: the Republic will have been restored and freedom will reign, or we will have lost, and the country will be part of the NAU and run by either a dictator or more likely by the banking cartel. We might not even have the appearance of democracy at that point: no Congress, no voting.

There will be huge prison complexes (even more than now) where refugees from the crumbled ruin that was Mexico are rounded up and kept, but also where they put political dissenters -- protesters arrested and kept in jail for decades without charge. Maybe 50% of the population might be in jail or work camps. We won't have completely collapsed like Mexico, but we will be a police state, as will Canada.

The social safety net will be completely gone. Before you celebrate that, imagine what our parents will have to go through -- these are people who have been counting on Medicare, Social Security, their 401ks, etc. for retirement. Many of this generation still don't quite realize the extent of the disaster that is coming and they aren't saving enough. They won't be prepared, and unless we have saved enough (by investing in gold, stocking up food), they might be on the street, starving.

Personally, I'm worried about my parents even more than me. They trust government way too much and are just about to retire in a few years. If the financial crisis keeps going the way it is, is there going to be anything left in their retirement fund? Will there be social security? Medicare? I am worried that these things only have a few years left at the rate that we are spending on these damn bailouts..

I think we will be in better shape because we never counted on this social safety net stuff in the first place. But for the people who do count on it, it will be terrible.. But even if we can survive, if the freedom movement fails, America as we know it is going to be gone in 20 years.

That is my take on it, anyway. :(

So, to answer the question: "Will the freedom movement have a lasting impact on the USA?" It better. We can't afford to fail.

Go back 20 years and extrapolate into the future. Of course the RATE of negative change continues to increase.<IMHO>

Correction: These are people who have paid into Social Security and their 401(K) just like they were told to do.

I'll be middle aged. Perhaps a few greys? Hopefully not as desperate. I don't see any reason why I wouldn't be a libertarian or ancap any longer. I'm not sure what this thing will transform into, that's all speculation.

Will we have alot of new technologies? Or will the state bring innovation to a hault?
