Because tax evasion is a crime against the government and they really don't like it when you disrespect them.

For example, if you cause a car accident and actually harm someone else, you may only get a fine. However, drive without a license, and you lose your driving privileges for a year or more. Who are you hurting by driving without a license? Why is it such a stiff penalty compared to someone who has actually caused harm?

Because child molesters pay their taxes, obviously.

Since your question is somewhat directed at child molesters, Yongrel might be able to answer your question.

[edit] oh, he replied already.

Government strives to be an equal opportunity molester. They do this for the children.

Government has quotas and rules to prevent age discrimination that may unfairly protect children from government financial molestation. Subjects and their children must all go down with the ship. Life boats and bailout protections are only for government use and for their political friends!

On the other hand, tax evaders threaten the government's recent $700,000,000 molestation expansion plan. Tax evaders could also expose future "more financial molestation out-of-thin-air" hyper-inflation plans and government's "stick it to the next generation" funding molestation secrets.

How much time does the average person serve for tax evasion?
How much time does an average child molestor spend in jail?
The supposition is that this is true- but is it? Any facts to support this?

Tax evasion can get you a maximim of up to five years in jail plus penalty- but most just pay a fine.

This article from the American Bar Association says average is about 15 months (again- most just pay a fine and do not go to jail). http://abajournal.com/news/conn_lawyer_gets_16_months_for_tax_evasion/

An average sentence for tax evasion is 15 months, the judge noted.

According to this, the average child molester gets five to six years- which is greater than the maximum for tax evasion- and could even get life in prision.

This one says the average is seven using US Department of Justice statistics. http://childprotection.lifetips.com/cat/63573/sex-offender-statistics/

* The average sentence given to the 4,300 child molesters was approximately seven years, with three of seven years typically being served

This would indicate that the original supposition is false. Child molesters do NOT get less jail time than tax evaders.
