why don't we look to banks like B B and T who oppose the bail out, and start a movement for people to deposit their money with them.

if we know this is a scam for the old families to crash the smaller, upstart banks, lets call their bluff and load them down with depositor cash.

list other banks who have come out against the bail out. lets do business with them.

This is a novel idea... :)

I've read some stuff by B,B and T, we have to make sure the bankers involved are idealogically opposed to the bailout, and will stick by their companies, however... companies like Pinnacle which are just going into the game so they can become profitable and get bought up by the old guys don't count.

When I have money again, I will probably open an account at a local credit union instead of a bank.

The more I read about BB&T the more I really like them. I just ran across this 2006 press release in which they explain their policy on NOT lending for Eminent Domain projects:

January 25, 2006

BB&T announces eminent domain policy
source (http://www.bbt.com/about/media/newsreleasedetail.asp?date=1/25/06+9:48:52+AM)

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –

BB&T Corporation today said it will not lend to commercial developers that plan to build condominiums, shopping malls and other private projects on land taken from private citizens by government entities using eminent domain.

The commercial lending policy change comes in the wake of Kelo v. City of New London, a controversial Supreme Court decision in June that said governments can seize personal property to make room for private development projects.

The court’s ruling cleared the way for an expansion of eminent domain authority historically used primarily for utilities, rights of way and other public facilities.

“The idea that a citizen’s property can be taken by the government solely for private use is extremely misguided, in fact it’s just plain wrong,” said BB&T Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Allison.

Why not any bank that chooses not to be a part of the Federal Reserve System?

Funny you should mention that. I was sort of thinking along similar lines lately.

Why should we just let them destroy the smaller banks?

Wonder if it would make sense to do some sort of ad to encourage the general public to abandon the big banks and be loyal to the small ones?

This is similar to supporting small businesses over the big conglomerate ones also. :)

Awesome idea. I haven't really heard much about BB&T, I'm gonna have to look further into them.

I was thinking the same thing, but people here sometimes discourage things like that as being ineffective. We should encourage people to use locally owned banks.

Like John Perkins says, you can change the world with your consumption and investment habits.

Maybe things cost a bit more or you don't make as much from your investments, but you know you are supporting the true growth of society and its people.
