The Dow has lost over half of it's gains today within a minute of the bailouts passage. I am willing to say, I'm dumbfounded. What is the cause of this? What will be the spin?

looking for a stimulus package and a fed rate cut. Its too late, the economy is toast no matter what they do.

I'm curious if possibly foreign investors were waiting to see the outcome of this bailout and might today decide to pull out of some American investments are we're apparently not a capitalist wealth creating economy any longer.

Who here thinks it will rise up 777 sometime today...?:p I wonder why it did not just explode upward the same way it moved down when the bill was defeated Monday?

Don't worry, the plunge protection team (i.e. presidents working group on financial markets) will make some phone calls and get it up.

-1 for misleading thread title.

Savage was saying a couple days ago, he thinks when the bill passes that the DOW would shoot up 800 points 'above' Monday's level 'prior to' the 'no' vote on the bill.

I don't know though, I'm leaning towards the analysts on the finance news channel assessment that the market has already moved beyond this bailout, as they're starting to realize it isn't going to do much, because there are hoards of problems beyond what they think this new gov owned corporation is going to be able to address.

Maybe the fact that the economy really sucks has more to do with this than the bailout package. As Dr. Paul already said - the fed has already pumped well over a trillion dollars into the financial markets with minimal impact. Investors aren't stupid - they know bullshit when they see it.

I wonder how CNN will spin this. They've been all over the Dow and the status of this Bailout Bill the last couple days.

The beauty of the Bill is, if the economy tanks, those who voted for it will get blamed because this was supposed to fix it. They'll try and say the economy was already going to tank, in which you can say, "then why did you pass the bill, it wasn't necessary." It's a no win for the legislature, but I don't care about them anyway. Things may actually tank worse now.

That's the thing. Those of us that have been watching this for years have noticed that the fixes the dealer was supplying were lasting less and less time, every time.

This might prop the market up for a week or a month....maybe get us through the election, but it can't last.

Dollar :(

The one good thing from all this was that it had been doing well vs. the euro the past few weeks.

Damn Eurocommies.

it probably popped big buy orders when it dropped...people have been looking for bargains....it should smooth out into an orderly tanking pretty quick here

a close below 10k would make congress look like the traitors they are let's hope for it. I sold off as the vote was coming in, made 8% today, time to shop for gold for a while.

it was simply buy the rumor (by 10:30am everyone knew they'd pass the bill and placed trades accordingly), and sell the news.
