Subject: [PAFOA Alert] Call your senators and get our Pro-Gun bill moving in the Senate
From: alerts@pafoa.org

Dear fellow Pennsylvania gun owner,

As you know, I do not write often but when I do it's important. In this case I am writing to you about Pennsylvania House Bill 1845. Originally created as a bill to increase the sentences for people who obliterate serial numbers on firearms, we have been able to attach amendments to the bill that would:

1. Prohibit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Resources from undermining state firearm laws (such as denying the lawful possession of firearms by carry permit holders and off-duty law enforcement.)
2. Prohibiting the confiscation of firearms during a disaster or state of emergency.
3. Provides the issuance of temporary emergency carry permits to people who can provide proof of imminent danger (such as women with restraining orders against abusive partners.)
4. Provides for open records allowing citizens to effectively challenge inaccurate criminal history records that are used to deny firearm purchases.

We have worked long and hard to get these changes enacted into Pennsylvania law and we're almost there, but we absolutely need your help!

House Bill 1845 has passed in the House, has passed the Senate judiciary committee but has unfortunately gotten bogged down in the appropriations committee. There are only 3 legislative days left in the senate session (October 6th, 7th & 8th) and if the bill is not passed within the next few days, all of our hard work is lost and we will all have to start from scratch! It is imperative we let our senators know that we expect this bill to make it to the floor for a vote, and this is where you come in!

I am asking you to take as much time as you possibly can over the next few days to call and email state senators telling them to support House Bill 1845 with amendment AO9226 only. Tell them you support this bill and their support for it will be remembered.

We've come this far, now we have to take it the last stretch together. I have attached below a document from the Firearm Owners Against Crime going over this in more detail along with a list of all Senators contact information including phone numbers and email addresses.

Please see our discussion thread here: http://www.pafoa.org/forum/alerts-133/34048-pafoa-alert-call-your-senators-get-our-pro-gun-bill-moving-senate.html
And please see the ACSL/FOAC Alert here: http://www.pafoa.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2856&d=1222998588

I thank you in advance for your help and your support.

Emergency Powers Bill Approved by House and Senate!

Today, House Bill 1845, an omnibus legislative package passed the State House and State Senate and is on the way to Governor Ed Rendell (D). This legislation contained a number of pro-gun provisions for Pennsylvania gun owners. Among the provisions was an "Emergency Powers" provision prohibiting any government agency from arbitrarily confiscating firearms during a state of emergency, such as occurred in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Other important provisions include:

· Establishing lawful carry of a concealed firearm in state parks

· Funding for the acclaimed "Don't Lie For The Other Guy" program administered by the National Shooting Sports Foundation

· Emergency permitting system for concealed carry licenses for individuals who are under immediate threat
