Lou Dobbs just had Rep. Brad Sherman on his show and the Rep. said that Wall Street has hired people to call all the members of Congress to say they support the bill. Staffers are wise to it and are asking the people where they live.

Corporatons have been doing this for years now--ie creating fake "grass roots" pressure by hiring people to call the constits and get them to call their reps in support of the Corporate Issue.

In D.C. there is even a name for it: "astroturfing"

That doesnt make this example of it any less grotesque.

I agree. This is like political manipulation. This should definetly be illegal. I mean, why not hire a bunch of phone banks in India to make these calls? IN OPPOSITION.

Sherman sort of indicated in many cases it is (example) the financial investors who stand to benefit from the bailout, such as Goldman-Sachs own employees.

He further stated in his speech on th floor for Congress to ignore/filter out those favorable calls in their count and that overwhemingly Americans are against the bill. :D
