I created this post in case you didn't know about the Gadsden flag. It is a great embodiment of the true American spirit.

The flag was designed by and is named after American general and statesman Christopher Gadsden.

As the American Revolution grew closer, the snake began to see more use as a symbol of the colonies. In 1774, Paul Revere added it to the title of his paper, The Massachusetts Spy, as a snake joined to fight a British dragon.[1] In December 1775, Benjamin Franklin published an essay in the Pennsylvania Journal under the pseudonym American Guesser in which he suggested that the rattlesnake was a good symbol for the American spirit:

I recollected that her eye excelled in brightness, that of any other animal, and that she has no eye-lids—She may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance.—She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage.—As if anxious to prevent all pretentions of quarrelling with her, the weapons with which nature has furnished her, she conceals in the roof of her mouth, so that, to those who are unacquainted with her, she appears to be a most defenceless animal; and even when those weapons are shewn and extended for her defence, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal:—Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.—Was I wrong, Sir, in thinking this a strong picture of the temper and conduct of America?

This flag represented a group of about one hundred minutemen from Culpeper, Virginia. The group formed part of Colonel Patrick Henry's First Virginia Regiment of 1775. In October-November 1775 three hundred such minutemen, led by Colonel Stevens, assembled at Culpeper Court House and marched for Williamsburg. Their unusual dress alarmed the people as they marched through the country. The word "LIBERTY OR DEATH" were in large white letters on the breast of their hunting shirts. They had bucks' tails in their hats and in their belts, tomahawks and scalping knives.

I love that flag too.

I like how it's high-visibility yellow and acts like a warning sign, like a rattlesnakes rattle.

I live in the desert and while hiking there's nothing more bone chilling than the sound of a rattlesnake telling you, "Don't tread on me!" You can't help but freeze and hold your breath as you slowly start walking away from the sound.

come to Charleston, SC and you will see it quite often.... Christopher Gadsden is actually my great, great, great....grandfather. My brother's first name is in reference to him....Yes we are true Native Charlestonians which today seems harder to come by in Charleston.

My roots in liberty are deeply sown. ;)

I love the Gadsen flag. Most people have an American flag hanging on their cube wall at work. I have the Gadsen. Thanks for the thread.

I wish I had such a claim to fame. That is badass. I'm looking online now for the bumper sticker.
