It's a longshot, but his opponent, Jay Wolfe, may get some traction out of the bailout fiasco.

Wolfe is good friends with a few Ron Paul supporters here in WV. He may not see eye-to-eye with us on some vital issues, including Iraq and welfare for Israel, but he's with us on other issues, including dismantling the Department of Education and withdrawing from the UN.

In any case, he'd be a damn sight better than Rockefeller.

Let's do it. I wrote Rockefeller (and Byrd) a reasonable note before the vote and a scathing one after. I'm probably on the FBI watch list or something now. The thing that our Senators don't see...is that an economic downturn could be good for WV...here's our new state slogan: "Foreclosure? move to WV, the most affordable state in the union." Imagine the Orange County CA suburbanites moving to McDowell County...lol. They could buy ALL the houses in the county for what they originally paid for their house in CA.

Anyway, I notified him that I will be campaigning for Wolfe. So lets do it. Wolfe isn't a longshot...he came within 13% of Rockefeller in 2002. That should be easy to get this year, with all the bs that is going on now. Let's replace this ultra-liberal with a guy who's not a complete neo-con. A step in the right direction at least.

I got nothing to campaign for now...we're out of Presidential candidates that I can support...why not work on something local or state. Also, it's a good way to get back 'in' with the Republicans in the area...there was some local hostility at the convention.

Yeah, hard to stomach the entire platform, but it's a sight better than Rockefeller.

So far, the total cost to taxpayers for US aid to Israel (over all time) has been around $134,791,507,200 [source] (http://www.washington-report.org/html/us_aid_to_israel.htm) and that's a sight better than god knows how many billions in the last few weeks with the bailout and everything else they've cost us...at least 700 billion and counting.

So Rockefeller > Wolfe when it comes to screwing taxpayers. Lesser of two evils, of course.

Official returns say Wolfe lost in 2002 by 114,379 votes. It was a 26% margin, not 13%...as reported on Jay Wolfe's website: "In 2002, I was Senator Rockefeller’s opponent and came within 13% of defeating him and he outspent me 20 to 1.". So maybe he's a liar (must be a requirement for running for Senator) or bad at math. I would bet that the margin this year could be cut in half by the bailout blowback. Good campaigning might do the rest.

I hear he's living in Salem, isn't that your neck of the woods, Spirit? He spent a lot of time around the Wood County area, so I'd guess he's got some contacts around here. I'm not seeing much much activity though. I emailed for some campaign material and mentioned that I might be able to set up some minor speaking engagements if he's interested. If I get any more pertinent info, I'll post it here.
