I have read somewhere that it was over 50 Trillion.

it could be 100 trillion. the ten trillion is the official national debt, the much higher numbers include entitlement benefits such as social security, medicare, and medicaid.

Well, now that we've surpassed $10 trillion, time for a little perspective:

$10 trillion in gold (currently around $850 per troy ounce, or about $27,328 per kilogram) is 365,923 metric tons of gold. The total above-ground gold stock (i.e. everything that has ever been mined) is estimated at 161,000 (http://www.invest.gold.org/sites/en/why_gold/demand_and_supply/) metric tons.

To look at it another way, America's entire housing stock is worth $10 trillion. Every house, apartment, condo, shack, etc.

Everything that has been mined? Does this include just in America or the whole world?

Bloomberg Analyst: $700 Billion Bailout Could Balloon to $5 Trillion, QUICKLY!

So, we're bailing out worthless CDS with the taxpayers money. They're trying to INFLATE the housing market as much as possible for valuation purposes.

But who pays... we do. and indirectly too... Property Taxes, FEES, Capital Gains.

the whole system is screwed up!

Does anyone have a link to the debt clock, which now shows the debt increasing over the 10 Trillion mark? (Really 100 Trillion)

Everything, everywhere, throughout history (except that which has been lost), from what I understand.
