Once again, our esteemed Commander In Chief has beaten the drums of fear and attempted to rally the public behind yet another ill begotten scheme based on fear. The world is coming to an end we hear. Main street won't be able to make payroll. People will lose their jobs (as if that wasn't happening already). Credit markets have fallen and can't get up (without a bailout from the suckers, er, taxpayers, that is).
How many times has this president gotten on television to warn us of dire consequences if he didn't get his way. We got the exact same rhetoric in the lead up to the war in Iraq as we are receiving now and people aren't buying it because all of his predictions before the Iraq war were wrong. There were no weapons of mass destruction. There was no immediate threat to our national security and Saddam Hussein had to ties with Al-queda.

In the events leading to this shutdown, Governor Granholm preached doom and gloom and "terrible consequences" if she didn't get her way and that these tax hikes and increased spending were "critical" to "be more globally competitive" and to "bring back jobs". Of course, the tax hikes passed, and unemployment is still going through the roof!

"credibility issues" - understatement. I'm glad there is a limit to some people's gullibility.

Mini-rant: On a news station I saw an American speaking pro-bailout using the argument that "we, that is Wall Street, lost $1 trillion yesterday because they haven't pushed this legislation through"...now maybe I'm insane, but losing a trillion dollars in a day doesn't seem like a good justification for taking 700 billion dollars of taxpayer money, it seems like those clowns are the last people that should be trusted with 700 billion dollars, how about just letting people keep their money for themselves and their families, instead of lining the pockets of 6-figure-bonus-bankers who are hard on their luck and selling their 3rd houses and 5th cars to be able to afford a constant supply of ivory back-scratchers.
