I posted this originally on the DailyPaul on 9-26-08.

Naturally I got a lot of static for praising the house Republicans for fighting this bill.

There IS a difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Maybe not between the party leadership.
Maybe not between their congressional leadership.
Certainly not between their presidential administrations and (God help us!) Obama and McCain.

But there IS a difference between the GOP and Democrat rank-and-file; and it is reflected in the philosophy and behavior of their elected congressmen.
The $700 Billion sell-out of America should have sailed through the House and Senate.

After all, it was proposed by a "Republican" administration and the Democrats who (for all their posturing about not rewarding the corporate executives) can't wait to endorse this great leap toward national socialism.
So what is the hang up?

The REPUBLICANS in the House of Representatives just can't get behind this atrocity.
They are getting emails and cards and phone calls from their REPUBLICAN constituents opposing the legislation -- and they are listening.
Will they eventually cave in? Probably. But that is because we have not strengthened their numbers with enough truly enlightened patriots. And if it had not been for them, this whole thing would have gone through without so much as a speed bump.

That is why Ron Paul is a Republican. That is why this is the party we must work with.

God bless the GOP as the last, best hope for America and the constitution!
Bring on 2010!
I really didn't think they would stop it.
And maybe they still won't.
But at least they are making us (the American taxpayers) heard in Washington DC.

Can I say "I told you so."?

Great post, OP!

I'm proud of our Republicans, too, and enjoyed listening to them at least saying the right things in their speeches. I hope they can hold firm, and bring over some Ds!

I was NOT speaking of the Republican "leadership" who do, admittedly, stink on ice. As I said before in response to criticism that I am being a NeoCon cheerleader...

"I am not a lifelong Republican. I have been betrayed by both major parties at different times in my life. I agree whole-heartedly that BOTH major parties are led by corrupt psychopaths who are selling out America.
But I think we must recognize that there is a difference between the parties AT THE GRASSROOTS.

The GOP, even in their empty rhetoric, make lip service to some true values. As a result they have attracted (some might even say lured) many of the best people in our country.
The Conspiracy works to neutralize these people by imposing ineffectual or misguided leadership.

They keep them pre-occupied with meaningless tangents; issues that may have great emotional potential but little relevance to the battle against global tyranny (stem cell research, abortion, gay marriage, prayer in school, flag burning, etc.). When that isn't enough to deflect them, they use their sense of duty and patriotism to ensnare them in wars of attrition.

The Conspiracy uses tangents in both major parties, true. But nowhere is it more important than in the Republican Party where their traditional values have been so dangerously close to the truth.

The Republican Party did not just "lose its way", it was systematically and cynically led astray.
And, like it or not, it is our responsibility to put it back on course."

After this bailout fiasco, I wouldn't be surprised if the House Minority Leader got the boot.

MORE republicans listened to their consitutents than did the democrats. YES, the Republicans are the ones we should be alliegining ourselves with...this is why I'm going back to the GOP. Tones

You should give them credit as the only ones who opposed the Fannie/Freddie bailout... the difference a few more democrats were on board then.

The house democrats are the ones who blocked this legislation. 149 republicans voted against the Housing bailout, the difference was only 3 democrats voted against it.

Republican leadership did, but the rank and file GOP in the house revolted and voted no. Look at the numbers, 133 R against. It looks like the Bush brigade and the Neo-Cons may finally be losing their grip on the party. Of course, all of the emails and calls didn't hurt either.

Of course, it is also a major victory that as many Democrats as did were also opposed to a big-government fix like this bailout, but that may just be because it wasn't egalitarion enough in nature or Socialistic enough... who knows.
