I sent him a donation because I believe he offered to email updates to subscribers.

If you used PayPal and sent money from a credit card that is the reason for the return. He has a separate email address for Paypal from a bank account and Paypal from a credit card. The latter account costs him a higher fee. I believe the email address is on the website someplace.
