We're making progress.

After my opponent's stunning performance on the Bill LuMaye show, many of you called and visited his office this morning to oppose the Bernanke/Paulson "No Bank Left Behind Act". Interestingly, it appears that folks working in my opponent's office decided it wasn't a good day to be around as a result.

Reports came in of no one answering the phones in the Durham office, with no way to leave a message. The Chapel Hill office was locked and dark, with a note on the door saying that staff was having meetings "outside the office." That was my experience when I dropped by at 11am -- as a constituent, not a candidate -- to express my concerns.

I was a bit taken aback by the lack of staff accessibility on this critical day in our nation's history. I was also impressed by those who came before me and left notes taped to the office door -- so impressed that I opened up my MacBook and took a quick YouTube video of the experience:

David Price: Nobody Home

Clearly, this is not a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

The good news, though, is that the supposed "deal" for a bailout appears to have fallen apart. Keep up the pressure, and let's see if we can find a way to protect Americans. Oh, and by the way, Washington Mutual failed tonight -- that's the biggest bank failure in history, surpassing Continental Illinois, but fortunately the FDIC orchestrated a firesale to JP Morgan Chase.

Finally, I invite you to join me at a new transpartisan site, www.nocashfortrash.org, to state your opposition to taxpayer-financed bailouts and follow the evolving crisis. It's a great portal for real-time news and Twitter feeds on the crisis. While you're there, be sure to use the Digg and reddit links to raise awareness!

Oh, and one more thing -- if you have any accounts with balances in excess of FDIC deposit limits... please, make a generous donation to our campaign today! :-)

Sincerely,

William "BJ" Lawson
