While we are embedded and entrenched in the underpinnings of the Mortgage Mess turned Financial Sector Crisis, Issue Number One, a few things HAVE been accomplished.

They gave $25 BILLION dollars to Detroit, for example...'cuz, you know, we never tried THAT before.

And they gave the go-ahead for offshore drilling. Smooth sailing on that.

No one is paying attention to whether Cheney's files are being secured or whether he's got between now and January to misplace and erase stuff.

Ditto, Karl Rove. Missing emails, my ass.

A couple of countries have fairly well told us to fuck off.

And Russia is scheduled to do joint military maneuvers with Venezuela. In October.

What else?

Well, there's a total of $900 billion in bailout related expenditures that have been fairly forgotten.

Russia is considering a gold ruble and denominating oil sales in euros.

Clay Aiken is gay.

Every single day that the American People fight amongst themselves, every moment, the Usual Suspects are profiting from a war that the squabbling People have cooperatively slid onto the back other-people's-problems burner, while we concentrate on our own economy-first burner. As though the two are completely unrelated.

It may well be simply a cover and distraction for something more sinister.<IMHO> ;)

The final months of the reign of Bush/Cheney, presuming no delay or cancellation of elections, are a window of opportunity to ram through anything and everything that may benefit them. They'll throw everything at the wall, and pocket anything that sticks. If enough shit sticks, it'll take the People the entire next presidential term to sort it out.

After four years of glorified shit shoveling, neoconservative and faux christian influences will be positioned to sell the country on the "need" for their resumption of the throne.
