Poll: McCain has solid lead in Montana

A new poll of Montana voters shows that Republican John McCain holds a solid lead in over rival Barack Obama in the race for president, and Ron Paul could be a factor in the race.

The CNN-Time Opinion Research poll shows McCain leading Obama among likely voters by 54% to 43%. But, if third-party candidates are included in the question then McCain's lead slips.

Likely voters pick McCain over Obama by 49% to 40%, with 7% throwing their support behind Paul.

7% while he is not campaigning, not spending any money in the state and isn't on the ballot in enough states to win enough electoral votes to be president. A true protest vote if there ever was one.

I wonder how well Paul would be doing in Montana had he ran third party or independent.

Wish us Floridians could have done something like that here in Florida. Too many old stubborn neocons

Great find.

I told someone in the coffeeshop this morning who asked if I was voting for Obama that I was a Ron Paul supporter and probably wouldn't vote - leave it blank for POTUS - and vote for other state office races.

My response will be RP if ever polled.

Even if not on ballot, tell people you will write him in.

Obama owes RP a steak dinner for handing Montana to him.

How so? The poll has McCain up 9-11 percentage points.

Would be funny if he somehow got more votes than the other candidates by write ins. Would truly embarrass the two main parties.

Montana Meetups better campaign to get Paul up to double digits!

my buddy here in WA is in the Army so he is still registered to vote in MT. The lucky bastard gets to actually vote for ROn Paul for president!

If ron would just run as an independent, he'd win. He'd only need a month before the election to do it. We'd get the word out.

Wouldn't be hilarious if the election came down to three electoral votes and Dr. Paul ended up swaying it....I'd laugh out loud.

Having an impact in one state's electoral count - heavily GOP Montana to "flip it" would be awesome.

Lots of Californians that want to get away from L.A. smog head up there as at least part-time residents.

I'm sure Nevada would have the same results in a poll...possibly higher.
