Since the beginning of this movement, I've contended that bringing the left-wing on board in sweeping numbers will ensure that the Revolution prevails.

Now, assuming SlaveUprising is to take off, I think that between the 3rd party press conference, Kokesh's clout as a voracious anti-war protester, and the sweeping anti-bailout sentiments that truly transcend partisan politics, we ought to consider inviting some popular activist bands to any events that may be planned.

You might find it silly, but looking at what happened in the 60's, I think having pop-culture icons along is a perfect opportunity to snatch up hordes of useful idiots who would otherwise go astray.

so, a few I have in mind:

Rage Against The Machine, for obvious reasons

Rise Against: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOtNqDyyX2c
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llBEfIfBOvk&feature=related
(typical lefty band, very popular though)

Sage Francis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtNMly0aDUk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PITNYQtZWFE
(very outspoken against the war and corporate philandering, and also makes mention of the 2 party duopoly)

Flobots: Now, I hesitate to mention these guys due to the involvement in Obama's campaign. On one hand, they appear to be liberal gatekeepers, but reading their lyrics, I want to believe otherwise (at one point, they even use the line, "no to neoliberal globalization"). Regardless, they're too popular not to give serious consideration to.

Tool: generally not politically involved, but they changed that with their last album

(very anti-military industrial complex, pro-workers rights)

Only two things motivate the majority of Musicians, especially national acts, and the second relates back to one.

1. Money

2. How can this make me money.

Now you may scoff at what I am saying. But this is my profession. I'm certainly not at the top of it, or even close. But it is where I am most educated.

I disagree. What the majority of musicians want is recognition. National acts have the luxury of thinking about money, but most of us do it for free, because we have something to say. As a professional, would you not agree? Or at least, as an artist, would you not agree? If you support Ron Paul to get rich you're in the wrong business, right?

What you are saying would qualify under number 2 of what I was saying. Problem is the OP was talking about well established acts. Yeah you can find someone who's just breaking through to possibly do it for free, but you better show some real numbers. Maybe trying to host an event on a large college campus or something like that could help.

Sure I know sometimes you play for next to nothing, but that's usually because you are a nobody. Heck one of the first gigs I ever did at a place in Philly called the Pontiac (formerly Dobbs) gave us $17 as payment. You can imagine our surprise. Crazier than that was the first time I played the 9:30 club in DC. Here's a real legit place to play and they gave us $250 bucks.

Yeah it's not all about the money. If it was no one would be doing it. But like I said the OP was talking about established acts. Nothing wrong about reaching for the stars, just don't be surprised when you pull back an empty hand.
