I was homeschooled as a kid, and I made it through college and run my own business. Hopefully I can give the same to my kids as my parents gave to me. Any advice for getting started. Any other homeschoolers around Asheville?

Bump. I know several in the Boone area. You might check in the NC forum at the bottom.

I live in Boone myself, was home schooled and know several home schoolers too. I am also engaged and plan on home schooling my children when I have them.

First off, congrats on your decision. We homeschool our children. To quote Jimmy Buffett "Theres good days, and bad days, and going half mad days." However, there's nothing quite as inspirational as that look in a child eyes when they finally "get it." (whatever "it" may be at the time.) One other piece of advice: don't invest so much in any one type of material/curriculum that you won't be willing to put it aside and try something different.

Oh, and if you are a reader of Claire Wolfe's stuff, there's a pinned On-Line Homeschooling Resource (http://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=19517.0) page on a daughter board of what used to be the Claire Files.

Good luck!

Have you seen this? It happened in Ashville. Haven't seen it reported on any local or national MSM. If I could I'd homeschool my children as well.
