Just starting this thread to brainstorm and discuss ideas for the first video to promote this sucker. Should be about three minutes, include the core messaging, and the story of the roman senator. Someone suggested a speaker in front of a red curtain a la V for Vendetta.

"For those of you who will not stand with us, may your chains rest lightly upon you!"

"For those of you who will not stand with us, may your chains rest lightly upon you!"

That's a pretty powerful line, did you just think of that, or is it a quote?

I think that line, if presented at the end will really make people think about what their role is in the modern American Society, and it will force the viewer to question themselves as to whether or not it's worth standing up for!

I don't know what kind of technical ability we're going to have but, what if that line went down something like this.

Adam is on his knees in solidarity at the end of the video, looking like a Slave with chains on. A constitution in the background gets set on fire by someone like Bush, Cheney or even "Obama + McCain". (it would have to dubbed in, and edited obviously...)

As the constitution starts burning, Adam breaks his chains, and stands up.

He then, starts speaking the line: "For those of you who will not stand with us, may your chains rest lightly upon you!"

As he is speaking this line the burning constitution illuminates dozens of slaves in the background on their knees, in chains.

Just brainstorming

I didn't think of that. It's a paraphrasing of this:
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

I think I can rewrite it to be more appropriate for the moment.

Cool man,

What do you think of the idea of having a constitution burning at the top of an empty room, pretty much where a ceiling light should be, and as it burns it illuminates legions of slaves in chains?

I'm thinking it symbolizes what happens when the constitution is destructed.

I am very torn on that issue. You and I both have a great affection for Sam but I am hesitant to cast anyone away just yet. I'd like to see a possible script for a V for vendetta type speech. I'll try to put something together in that regard.

hows about images of people slaving away with rock hammers as they are breaking rocks. In the background, you can hear moaning and groaning, even perhaps someone being struck by a whip. Eventually it zooms into one of slaves while he is working and tears are in his eyes, a completely hopeless and sullen look on his face. Every time he strikes the rocks, an image of better days appears (his childhood, his loved ones, his days of feeling free). With every passing shot of him striking the rock, the camera zooms closer while the hopelessness in his face transforms into fierce determination, as he strikes the rocks with more and more force. Finally, he braces for the most forceful strike possible, and *SMASH*, an image of his hammer breaking the chains that hold him. He looks up with a ravishing look in his face, while the other slaves around him look upon the scene with awe.

Next, a loud cry and smash is heard, and a slave not too far away breaks the chains holding him. Before you know it, all of the slaves are freeing themselves and begin to howl and cheer, raising their fists in the air in glee. As the camera spans skyward, the sun fills the screen in a blinding white light, with a final mention on the screen (ex. its already here. (fade out) ; The Campaign for Liberty (fade out)

Question is, what emotion are we trying to inflict? Think about that, that's what makes media effective. Start with that. Rule numero uno, music is the medium, visualizations merely reflect that medium. You can present the ideas espoused on that website in a number of ways. You can envoke a sense of violence, longing, sadness, nobility, whatever. Depends on how you want it represented. I know this sounds corney, but try this, click on this link, close your eyes, listen to the music, and picture a massive army of people protesting wearing those bands, pisture the response of the police, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhYVFI6gj-c

then do the same, only listen to this one with your eyes shut. Picture people being forced out of there homes, picture the war, picture the police state, people crying, poeple working their asses off, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqhzuzXlUIM (edit : yeah I used an instrumental version of this song in one of videos. Love that song...last half of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFfdB5OzlyQ)

Seriously, do that with your eyes shut. and think of which way you want to go. Songs like that are easy to use, becuase right now the whole country is pissed. Or sad. Play on those emotions, the people in power do it everyday, might as well level the playing field.

These are all great ideas. If I could add my 1 1/2 cents, I think having imagery of the Revolutionary War, of some of the great sayings of the Founding Fathers, and of highlighted versus of the Bill of Rights could have some impact...I am constantly thinking about Taxation Without Representation, and how Ron Paul has said that inflation is a hidden tax... I think a main focus of this video should relate back to the fact that "No Taxation Without Representation!" was a rallying cry that forever changed this continent. Our "masters" have taken enough in the so-called legal taxes they impose that people willingly (though begrudgingly) pay, nevermind the biggest tax of all, the one that steals the wealth right out of the dollars in our pockets. The can't have it ALL, damnit!

SONG
I think the perfect song for this is "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". A song could not be more aptly named for us right now. This rendition in particular is very good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5mmFPyDK_8 The drums in the background make it Perfect.
Lyrics - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Hymn_of_the_Republic

Or

A song by Pokerface, titled "Rather Die (than be your slave)" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUmR3Vmm0oU some good pictures in it too.
Lyrics - http://www.pokerface.com/html/pf_patriot_lyrics.html

QUOTES

Another song to consider-- Fight Like A Brave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-PQXCUjCJQ)

All you slingers and fiends
hide behind your rocks
put down your guard
I'm not here to box
this is no showdown
so throw down your guns

you see it doesn't matter
where you come from
you could be from park ave
or from a park bench
you could be a politican
or a bitchy princess
but if you're lookin' for a fist
and you're lookin' to unite
put your knuckleheads together
make a fist and fight
not to your death
and not to your grave
I'm talking about that freedom
fight like a brave

fight like a brave
don't be a slave
no one can tell you
you've got to be afraid

If you're sick-a-sick'n'tired
of being sick and tired
if you're sick of all the bullshit
and you're sick of all the lies
it's better late than never
to set-a-set it straight
you know the lie is dead
so give your self a break
get it through your head
get if off your chest
get it out your arm
because it's time to start fresh
you want to stop dying
the life you could be livin'
I'm here to tell a story
but I'm also here to listen
no I'm not your preacher
and I'm not your physician
I'm just trying to reach you
I'm a rebel with a mission

fight like a brave
don't be a slave
no one can tell you
you've got to be afraid

fight like a brave
don't be a slave
no one can tell you
you've got to be afraid

I'm here today to pump up the uplift mofo party plan
a plan based on a band, a band based on a plan
there should be no slaves in the land of lands
it's a hollywood jam

You say you're running and you're running
and you're running afraid
you say you ran across the planet
but you couldn't get away
the fire in your brain
was driving you insane
you were looking for a day
in a life that never came
so don't tell me that
I've got to take a number
cause I've been to that doctor
and believe me that's a bummer
here's a one of a kind
convention of the mind
and don't forget to mention
that it doesn't cost a dime
come as you like
and leave any time
and one more thing
you know it doesn't have to rhyme

fight like a brave
don't be a slave
no one can tell you
you've got to be afraid...

I've always thought "Overcome (The Recapitulation)" by the RX Bandits would make a great protest song for something like this.

Start it off a little slow introducing the issues then introduce slave uprising at the " I can't wait for the day that I hear us all screaming together"

The "I'm not buyin, i'm not givin in" chant really allies with the tax avoidance issue. Just a thought.

You can ignore the video, but the song I'm talking about is right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEux0mrcBwo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEux0mrcBwo)
Lyrics:

Turn it up
The future is held in the hands
Who right the textbooks
Ignorance is bred when falsified thinking is taught
To the youth instead of
Past mistakes and mind elevation,
Like the graves that manifest destiny has created
So we can build our
Capitalist consumer based economy,
To build, market,
And sell commodities we don't need
But we are trained to believe like celebrity imaging
Well I'm here to take my feelings back and I hope That you will be with me

I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all screaming.
Ahhhhhhhhh,
I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all singing together,
Ooooohhhhhh
I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all screaming.
Ahhhhhhhhh
I can't wait for that day
When I hear us all singing together,
Ahhh,

I can't wait for the day
When I hear us all screaming,
HERE COMES THE REVOLUTION.
When every race color
And creed of militant human beings stand up
With fists together for substance and true meaning
Because right now we got our feet stuck in cement
We're too caught up in
A material status quo punishment
And one thing is for sure
And that's the sun will always set,
Darling you can bet our moon is quite the opposite
So baby take a axe to your makeup kit
Set ablaze the billboards and their advertisements
Love with all your hearts and never forget
How good it feels to be alive
And strive for your desire
Just cause you can't see
Your cage doesn't mean that you are free
When there are laws against nature
But its ok for you to be
Addicted to over the counter prescriptions
And magazines dictate all our human relations

I'm not buying, no I'm not giving in
To a culture that objectifies all of our women
I'm not buying, no I'm not consuming
The apathetic dribble on the news media's chin
I'm not buying, no I'm not giving in
The lies that are sold through textbooks to children
I'm not buying, no I'm not consuming
Cause the positive will
Always overcome the negative right

And we stay inside, its right outside,
We stand in line
We all enjoy the fences to keep it at bay
But I'm not giving in

ALso I live near Philly. I have a Canon HV20 if you we would need some HD video recorded of any Philly monuments. Liberty Hall or such. I would just need to know what things to record. They could also be used as backgrounds for green screen. I'm also in traveling distance to Valley Forge.

There's plenty of Patriotic footage I'd be happy to help with. You just need to give me a little room with notice.

Plus I'm an audio engineer with studio. So if you can think of anything you might need let me know and I'll see how I can help.

Also not suggesting this song for the video it's just a good remake and rocks and sorta fits the idea. Good mood music.

I'm glad it gave you chills as that was the intention! As for doing it from scratch, I don't think it would be much in terms of production. If done right, that is professionally, it might lend powerful imagery and sound towards the concept of Slave Uprising.
