H.R. 811 -- the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act -- is moving in the House this week. The Democratic Leadership is putting its FULL weight behind the compromise reached by Majority Leader Hoyer and Congressman Rush Holt (which is supported by activists in the civil rights and voting rights communities). Will you do the same?

This bill may be our last chance to get paper records for every vote, and mandatory audits, in time for the 2008 presidential election.

Urge your representative to SUPPORT H.R. 811, the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act. Call now!

Please contact your representative. Call the capital switch board, toll free at any of these numbers. Give your representative's name or your zip to be connected to his office.

The bill would make significant improvements to voting machines in time for the 2008 elections in the areas of voter verification, accountability and auditable paper records. This is an urgent call to action for you, the grassroots, to help achieve a major victory this week for fair, secure elections.

In 2006, 18,000 votes disappeared in Sarasota due to machine error or tampering, the exact nature of which still has not been determined. Passage of H.R. 811 will help prevent "another Sarasota" from happening in 2008.

As the Sarasota Alliance for Fair Elections (SAFE) puts it, "we need to get a stake in the ground NOW at the federal level for verified voting." We couldn't agree more.

Every representative needs to hear from his or her constituents TODAY so this bill can pass with strong momentum going into the Senate. Time is of the essence.

Please help by calling your rep. today.
