My middle-aged hippie-type South Dakotan preschool teacher of a Mom asked me out of the blue today to tell her about Ron Paul! She knew I was doing volunteer work for the campaign, but has never showed any interest, and I know she finds the idea of voting for a Republican pretty repellant... but today she just said, "How's your candidate doing?" We talked for a little while, about media coverage (or lack thereof), the necessity for the rule of law to be respected, doubts about the current political scene, and how/if things could change for the better. She agrees with me that the most important issue on the table is ending the war NOW, and that the other candidates would not accomplish this (up til now, she's supported Obama and still thinks he is a good guy overall. She read his books, etc). She had actually never heard of Kucinich.

OK, so, here's where I need some help. She said she's going to Google him, but she also asked me to send her a few links to introduce her to Ron Paul from my perspective and explain why I support him so fervently. I need a couple really great videos or written pieces that would be the "right" kind of thing to start her off on... any ideas? There are just so many! My main concern is that I don't want to overwhelm her with a bunch of scary stuff. So, what's your favorite Paul Nugget? What should I start her off with?

I think an Averoth video is a good start

I think his view that the federal government should stay out of the personal lives of the citizens might be important to her.

Stop Dreaming by Aravoth on Youtube is amazing.
If she's willing to sit through a whole documentary, then show her Freedom to Fascism. The info in that documentary introduced to me is probably the biggest reason why I support Ron Paul.

I honestly think the videos are a bad hook, those are better reserved after the person has learned and become interested in ron paul. Just start off with his voting record which many people find important, and also what he stands for. Limited government, and cutting back the bloated federal agencies to reduce spending.

Freedom to Fascism is not a good Ron Paul intro movie.

I would use the google interview video as a better intro to Ron Paul long video.

Freedom to Fascism is a PERFECT intro for some people, but I dont know about her hippie teacher. Probably not. I would say for her, more anti-war and freedom to live the lifestyle you want type stuff.

Id say FTF is geared more towards gold bug and people that are really hard core anti government types. Works awesome on them.

Ok, I would say first, get her hooked.

This one is him on the Colbert Repor, and these other videos are some catchy ones too. But the Colbert Repor one is good stuff, it's short, and it's very entertaining, informative, and will make her interested.

Beings that she is a hippie chick you might mention that he is not liked by the Republican leadership. You want her to know he is not just another Republican.

Yeah, if you want a longer video, AFTF is not as good as the Google interview as for an intro to RP

My middle-aged hippie-type South Dakotan preschool teacher of.....

Welcome to the forum.. I hope it didn't suprise you that you got like 20 different responses..

I think what you can take away from this is there's a TON of stuff out there for introducing people to Ron Paul.. but you know your mom better than we do.. so if you really want to persuade her, you'll have to review this stuff & come up with what you think would be the best angle.

Wow, thanks for all the great responses! I'll do some review and filtering, and start her off with a few of those tomorrow. I'll let you know how she responds, too. Good test case , I think!
