UPDATED AT 10:08 PM -- GALVESTON, Texas — About 250 people who withstood Hurricane Ike on a coastal sliver of land will be forced off it so crews can begin the recovery effort, authorities said today, saying they'll invoke emergency powers to make it happen.

I'd invoke my emergency powers, it comes in various powers, all rated in caliber and millimeter.

Speaking of which, I hope all Galvestonians have enough sense to take their firearms with as they go. I'd hate for ATF to steal them all.

Is emptying an entire city by force after the disaster unprecedented?

Nah, the did it in much of Louisiana and Mississippi after Katrina.
