View Full Version : One thing is obvious

It is obvious without a central figure actually in the running for the Presidency a lot of us just don't know what to do with our energy and passion for liberty. I know I don't. I would suggest that the most important thing is for someone to step up and take up the mantle of Dr. Paul in preparation for the next go around. My real wish is that we could form a new party truly based on libertarian principles - it is obvious what has happened to the Libertarians.

Look at the way a party sprang up around Ross Perot and I'm sure he didn't have anything like the real support Dr. Paul had. I wish I didn't think that all the existing parties were lost causes, but I do. I wish the Libertarians hadn't gone the way they have and I wish they weren't viewed as a joke - as a party who main goal is to lose and brag about it. Does anybody really think there is a chance in hell this country will change in any significant way without starting with a clean slate?

You saw how welcomed Ron Paul and we were by the GOP. This idea of changing from the inside is wishful thinking. They like being the corrupt, self righteous, war party. And the Dems actually believe that socialism is a desirable goal. The GOP does to, except it's only socialism for the rich. I have brought this up before and was met with something less than enthusiasm, but if we really want any kind of change and return to liberty, how on earth are we ever going to do it without a party that is not entrenched and invested in the status quo.

The argument is generally that it is too hard to start a new party and to get any recognition - well yeah, it's incredibly hard, but it's hard for me to see how we would have any other chance. You saw what the GOP did to Dr. Paul and to us. Don't you think they will only be more efficient at it the next time? Don't you think that they are thinking at this very moment - how do we prevent another embarrassing Ron Paul deal the next time around? and - How do we keep any future Ron Paul from being heard at all or allowed in the debates at all the next time?

Ron Paul said today what I have said for a long time - the only people who can give us a shot are those 50% of the public who don't vote because the see no one to vote for and no point in voting. Most Americans don't vote because they feel their votes don't count - and they're right. If we give them something to vote for, they will. Remember, the only people got to vote for Ron Paul (for far and away the most part) were registered Republicans and we made up a tiny fraction of those people. Sure Dr. Paul had at least a couple of million of serious supporters - spread across 50 states and diluted to the point where they counted for nothing.

Get this straight - the GOP hates Ron Paul and everything he stands for, everything we stand for. A person with libertarian principles will NEVER be the GOP candidate for President. The GOP would rather guarantee their own defeat than see that happen. So where else is there to go? Why not another party based on all the principles that Dr. Paul went to so much trouble to express to the country - most hearing these things for the first time and many hearing a politician saying the things that believe for the very first time. But all of these people never got to vote for Ron Paul and they wont get to, because the GOP made it their business to make sure they didn't. I just don't see how we have any hope without going outside the existing political parties. Where is there for our movement to grow into without a party that holds the same principles?
