I have no problem with you, we happen to disagree on something. I'm rather pissed off that Barr sabotaged what could have been the best year for the Libertarian party and gotten ballot access. I'm trying to do something that holds him accountable for this giant blunder, what's your suggestion? Vote for him because of his mustache?
I was fully set to vote for him. He screwed up royally and I happen to be the type that will say/do something about it.
Aside from "you're retarded" what are your actual thoughts on it? I don't chase you around looking for your opinion, so I hadn't thought to check with you first.

Barr didn't have to agree to appear. I seriously doubt Nader, Baldwin and McKinney's participation were kept secret.
I don't see the C4L's culpability being the least bit equal.

I don't care about Barr's ego or the C4L's ego. This was a major opportunity to bring some cohesion to the base and even for Barr to pick up more supporters. I was never a huge Barr fan, but I was going to vote for him because of Kludge's very well-thought out argument of voting for him in order to get the LP ballot access in the future.
And he screwed it up royally, I don't see how Ron Paul screwed it up. It was Barr's decision to state his support, then grandstand as a no-show and put on his own thing. His campaign manager guy is so incredibly incompetent that he went even further to piss off RP supporters, despite the fact that he did actually make a few good points. Gross incompetence and backstabbing.
I hate politics.

I'm curious how many of you that signed this took the time to go to Denver and participate in the process.
And of those that didn't, how does it feel being on the side that wants to overthrow the rules like what was done to us in Nevada.

This is an interesting insight into how your mind works. So, attempting to drum up popular support for a recall is akin to silencing dissent? Sorry, but I just don't see that. Since when do the neocons set up petitions, or ever try to persuade people with anything but either bribery or arms?
Your demagoggery is getting better. Just not a lot.

Lets say that Ron Paul won the nomination outright and in one of his speeches he talks about how they attacked us because we have been over there.
Now Guliani and his cronies are outraged. They start a petition to overturn the results and remove Paul’s nomination. You honestly think I’m buying that you would approve of such a petition? Sorry, you would call a spade a spade, or in this case an asshole an asshole.

And?
I still don't see how either proposing a petition or opposing a petition is in any way not above board, is sneaky, or violates rules or the rights of anyone in the organization in question.
It is no more dastardly than the votes of no confidence common in parliamentary governments. Not one bit.

This is true only because the effort is a waste of time.
But if the petition was actually effective in violating the rules set out for the party nomination, it would be an outrage. So your only defense in signing the petition is it can’t possibly work and no harm can come of it.

Completely different scenario. I started the petition because I'm pissed about the damage that he did to the LP in a year when they have the best chance to get ballot access in the future. He royally screwed up and alienated the base.
It's more like if McCain ditched and then insulted the religious right, by slipping up and calling Palin a whore in public after skipping out on a conference she scheduled to gain more of their support.
We both know that McCain doesn't give a rat's ass about them, but sabotaging your party by angering the base when they just get the potential to go somewhere is heinously stupid.

The vocal minority makes a lot of noise, but come November 5th, Barr will get far more votes then any libertarian has ever received in the past and if it wasn’t for the inept C4L, we could really make history in this election but apparently all the higher ups have enormous egos that must be stoked constantly.
You are correct that I have not been one to call names in the past, but the line in the sand was drawn and it was not drawn by me. I criticized HQ Don and his desire to feed this feud yesterday and immediately became a troll for it. The C4L is totally inept and it appears to only be getting worse. Barr chose to not attend a press meeting with Nader and McKinley. I say bravo, we don’t need to sacrifice 100% of our principals for political expediency.

As far as sacrificing principles, many libertarians would argue that the choice of Barr in the first place was sacrificing principles for political expediency.

The C4L made a major mistake by not limiting their support to freedom oriented platforms.
Like it or not, the C4L was given advanced notice that the Libertarian Party nominee was not happy about appearing with Nader and McKinley. I read the press release three hours before the event which indicated Barr would not be at the event. They could have kept this feud behind closed doors for the good of the movement, but instead they threw out the spokesman for Barr and had crony Don immediately come crying to this forum to get us to side with one group over the other.
The C4L decided that their branding and name recognition trumps any gains we make in 08. In fact the organization has totally written off 2008.

So that's what you're really peeved about, Nader and McKinley? I understand that, but I also understand that RP's always worked with and been friends with people like Kucinich as much as he can, despite that, they've never influenced his voting.
Why is it such a shock that he might want to work with other, more liberal candidates who have been marginalized by the system?

I thought I was clear that I’m peeved that the C4L made this feud public. If parents get divorced, they should never ask the kids to take sides.
Why is it such a shock that he might want to work with other, more liberal candidates who have been marginalized by the system?
Again though, they were informed well in advance that the candidate that won the Libertarian Party nomination decided it was in his own campaigns best interest to not appear with Nader and McKinley. Ron Paul backed out of a few agreed on interviews as well. The C4L tossed out a spokesman for the party, went to the pro Ron Paul sites and tried to get supporters to be angry with the decision. How does that help?

Obviously he didn't informed the C4L "well in advance", which is why in the press conference Ron Paul says that "Bob Barr is on his way". Barr had a week to reconsider his decision to attend, yet he waited until 10 minutes before the event that was obviously very important to Dr. Paul.

Well, I saw Ron Paul on the same tv set with Kucinich. And I was glad he's not deathly afraid of liberty-minded liberals. There are such things, and their hearts (if not their economics) are in the right place.
As for the spat, Barr did a little publicizing himself. And while I hear he is supposed to have rescinded his RSVP with three whole hours' notice, Ron Paul's behavior casts doubt on that. How do these things help?
Look, I'm not saying the C4L is any great bastion of perfection. But then, I for one am willing to give it a chance to get its doors open and get off the ground before I write them off. As for the LP and Barr, I don't think that excuse works for them.

The C4L is inept. They were informed in advance that Barr would not be coming and failed to relay this info to Dr. Paul.
The Barr spokesman was kicked out of the room before Ron Paul made a statement about Barr being on his way. Reconcile that for me please.

There's a good point! Your gripe is with the C4L leadership. Why is that not your "crusade?"
And I do agree with you on this, they need to get their shit together. I don't say it to tear them down, but in the hopes that they will learn from their mistakes. Have you taken measures to inform them of your opinion on this and other gaffes?

it is.
I quit as leader of the C4L and informed them of my decision.

Amy, I signed and thanks for the petition.
To any fucktards who are bashing those of us that signed it, piss off. Especially the AREALCONSERVATIVEJACKASS. I am a member of the LP. A Card carrying, dues paying member of the LP since 1994. Anybody who had a clear intention of voting for the LP has full right to ask for his withdrawl.
Do I think RP fucked up by not endorsing....hell ya. The biggest mistake that this campaign made was never taking the bull by the horns and leading you bunch of cats into a straight line. Now we ended up with a cult of personality who is fighting over which pseudo-Ron Paul knockoff we should vote for. So do we get the former neo-con with the fake hitler mustache or the Theocrat loving bible thumping false DR. named Baldwin. My god, I couldnt be less excited!
You rock Amy and dont let these morons get you down!

Thanks man, I had a lot of help putting it together, many thanks to menthol patch and acptulsa. I just did the technical stuff.
I feel most betrayed because I'd finally decided to vote for the guy despite my misgivings and was leaning toward joining the LP if or when many of us decide that the GOP is beyond redemption. Now it kinda looks like the GOP is trying to destroy this party before I even get a chance.
The best outcome? The LP learns a lesson to not compromise themselves for the the sake of popularity.

this screw up is as much with the C4L as it is with Barr. This is a war of competing egos.
I agree.
Barr should've at least showed up. However, he thought it was against his best intentions for his party after learning 30 minutes or so beforehand what the meeting was all about. Then mis-communication occurred. Being the leader of his party, he has that right. In principle, it would've been nice to show face. This wasn't a deal breaker. In hindsight, however; he did the right thing.
And, I must say I'm a bit confused on C4L/RP about this.
Sure, it's great that the 3rd parties can agree to the 4 big issues, and then argue the minor ones.
Sure, it's great that we're informed that there are alternatives to the McBama campaign. (In case you're totally clueless.)
Sure, it's nice to know that without 15% rating by polls that the 3rd parties can't debate with McBama, and that they want to have their own debates. I'm all for it.
However, C4L went nowhere.
1) RP still hasn't endorsed anyone. The most likely candidate was the Libertarian Party. The C4L needs leadership and an electorate focus; not to cast the votes to the "four winds." The C4L is good at rallying and talking for the right reasons. Now they need to step up and use their powers in democracy to be heard, or else, all they're doing is making noise.
2) RP instead said "just vote for one of the 3rd party guys." Great. After learning all about his views which we love, we are given the freedom to vote for one of four other parties, realizing that they're not exactly what we probably want. Doing so will do absolutely nothing to the McBama campaign, or virtually anything to the MSM.
3) If two socialists, a religious constitutionalist, and a Libertarian, can all agree that the 4 major Libertarian views are needed, why can't they agree on the minor issues as well? What would've been a truly revolutionary announcement would be for these 4 groups to come together under a single banner: the Campaign for Liberty, obviously with RP in charge. If that wouldn't force him to get out of the mindset of trying to change the Republican Party from the inside out, who knows. This would've given the electorate a singular goal, while the four leaders argue and debate over the details.
4) RP should've sponsored and/or organized the first 3rd party debate. He had time between the announcement and the conference to talk to all the candidates and setup another meeting. If this announcement is so important, why isn't C4L endorsing it, and not just informing the public about it?
