What would be the Ron Paul thing to do?
Waited 10 minutes for a Primo spot w/ my family in Del Mar spot was opening up - I put on the Hazards - as soon parked car was out a landrover pulls in front of me a 50+ aggressive guy jumps in front of my car ( stands in the spot!) and says he has the space first.

that's when you pull out a toy capgun that's been painted black and nonthreateningly ask him if he's sure he wants the parking spot... :p j/k don't do that... it's probably a felony :D

If your car was able to move and block his from entering the spot, just wait him out.

This happened to me about 5 yrs ago, very similar situation. I pulled up slowly and the guy backed up till he got to the concrete bumper thing and stopped so I layed on the horn and stuck my head out of the window and said "get the f--k out of the way as--ole!!!!" he said a few words and shook his head, but he moved.

My gf was kinda mad at me for acting that way, but I explained to her that you cant let people try taking advantage of you like that. She said "well you didnt have to swear at him like that" I said "well he didnt have to get out of his wifes car and steal my spot either now did he, and a guy that does something like that doesnt deserve to be treated with respect, so were even." I think she saw my point after that.

Thats just me though. I took the risk of possibly getting my ass whooped, but it worked out.

A friend of mine told me a similar story that happened to her mother (many years ago) when she had been waiting for a parking space at a very crowded shopping mall in France:

Some woman driving a BMW darts in and scoops up the parking space. My friend's mom tells the woman that she had been waiting for that space; the woman basically tells her that's too bad, that she's in a hurry, then goes off to the mall.

My friend's mom, being royally pissed, then lets the air out of all four tires of the woman's BMW's.

I'm not saying that this is what you should have done, as it's potentially dangerous for the driver (no matter how big a jerk he was), though it was a story that stuck with me.

No no no.

The correct cause of action is as follows:

1. Park elsewhere

2. Write a note and leave it under his windscreen wiper that says:

"Today you have taken that which was not yours, ie. the parking spot.
Enjoy your ill gotten gains asshole"

3. Continue with you day to day activities.

works like a charm, and gets the other person pissed :D

I dont know, I just prefer the direct confrontation myself because it makes people like that think twice before trying that again to someone else, but I guess your way does the same thing.:D Guess its just a matter of taste dont you think?

Ron Paul? Probably leave a few books on etiquette

Ron Paul supporters? one of the following
a) let out air out of tires
b) remove lug nuts, wheels fall off when the person starts to drive off
c) cut brake lines to the caliper
d) remove the person's license plates
e) use a screw driver to poke holes in the muffler
f) use screw driver to poke a hole in the catalytic converter($1500 to replace at the dealer)
g) remove the rubber from the windshield wipers
h) pull out the rubber weather striping near the moonroof
i) of course there is keying but thats not very creative
j) remove sideskirts from the car
k) spray paint the windows black
l) paint thinner on the paint
m) sugar in the gas tank
n) remove exhaust from the rubber hangers
o) remove oil drain plug
p) cut a hole in the wiper fluid bottle
q) of course can shatter windows, headlights, tailgihts with the tire iron
r) of course can kick in the rear quarter panels
s) pop the hood by reaching and tugging on the hood cable, and remove the oil cap
t) remove headlight bulbs
u) remove the ground wire
v) disconnect battery
w) remove the distrubutor
x) cut the power steering belt
y) unscrew the radiator cap
z) put a Ron Paul sticker on their Rear Bumper

and yes all those things are possible with just a screw driver, a socket wrench and a tire iron.

I tend to agree with him though. Seems to me there are so many assholes in the world today with no respect for other people because people dont stand up for themselves like they used to. Now we just let the jerk have his way for the most part. Back in the day, people wouldnt do stuff like this because back then people were more willing to stand up for whats right, even if its a small thing like someone being a jerk and jumping out on foot and standing in your parking spot like a little child. They knew back then that its most likely that someone wouldnt put up with crap like that. Fist fights were alot more common when I was young, even among adults. Ya know what though, people generally had more respect for one another because of it. They settled their differences right then and there and probably both came out of it with a little more respect for other people in the process.

Kick his ass and say "blowback's a bitch!"

He'll then tell his friends his ass was kicked because of his freedoms.

I didn't say to just take it. I think if someone's going to do something, you do it to his face. Right then. It's chicken-blank to run away, then come back and start damaging his car, once he's gone. That's nothing other than vandalism.

Maybe the reason people don't stand up as much these days is because we've become so lawsuit crazy.

I think alot of it comes from how our government is run. When a government is overbearing and demanding (like a bully), the people tend to fall in line and do what their told. It sets the mood in a way and people follow it because it is in their mindset, a sense of powerlessness to do anything about it yourself, so they take the passive-agressive route instead. I myself choose to stand up to anyone that tries to take advantage of me because in my opinion, its far worse to let an asshole have his way with you than it is to stand up to him even if he breaks your nose.

Privatize the primo spot.

Encourage local government to auction the space off on a daily basis = The RP thing to do. Let the market sort out these things. Rationing parking spots is socialist.

I like the license plate thing, that's funny. It doesn't cause any damage, just gets him in trouble for driving without plates. (although I'm sure there's a rule against it).

But seriously cameras are EVERYWHERE, you just can't do that anymore, because there is a chance it will be on video.

The letter on the windshield is about the only thing you can do without it being vandalism.

Unfortunately, the type of people who steal parking spots don't care what anyone thinks of them and actually get satisfaction out of screwing people over and getting away with it, so notes like that would just make them feel like they got to you even worse. The only language they seem understand is equally antisocial behavior, e.g. rude yelling and tire deflating...
