In 1984, Palin was chosen Miss Wasilla and went on to become the first runner-up in the Miss Alaska Pageant, but she won Miss Congeniality that year. Her family still holds ties to the pageant—her husband, Todd, was a judge in 2008’s Miss Alaska pageant.

I don't like the beauty queen thing at all, but hey, my mom was Chairman of the local Queen contest for years. As long as she isn't half dressed in evening gowns and thinking that a pretty smile can solve the world's problems, her involvement in a beauty contest in 1984 isn't all that relevant in my book.

I'd really like to WHY she chose to run with McCain.

She was a flautist trying to win a scholarship. She later described the experience as degrading.

Because if he dies, she becomes President of the United States or it helps her chances at a run for President in 2012 or 2016. Why not do it? If she loses, she still keeps her Governor job.

I think she has a very good mind and intentions, and is courageous, but just a little neoconned. It's too bad that she couldn't spend a little time as Ron's protege, because she would probably be a fierce fighter for liberty once deprogrammed.
