I may make a separate "too young to vote" option next poll, isn't enough room.

I could never pull the lever for Obama but being that I know that Bob Barr is not going to win (even though I'll still vote for Barr), I'd rather see Obama in the White House than McCain.

Simply, I'm tired of seeing conservatives feel that they have to sacrifice their principles like in the last 8 years and submit to the neocons. I also feel that Obama will be so radical that it will hopefully show people how dangerous big government ideology really is and we will have fertile ground for our movement to grow.

It's a big gamble, but I don't see any other way.

Ok, I guess we'll just let the neocons rule forever then, while we remain a splintering movement with 100 different parties to vote for.

Honestly, the only way for us to win (EVER) is going to be by taking over a major party from the ground up. Voting for these no-name guys in no-name parties isn't going to help. I hate it, but that's the way it is. You either have to play within the system, or tear it down and start over, and while I would prefer to do the latter, it's not something one can do on one's own, so I will do what I can until the Revolution gets here for real.

As much as I respect the LP and CP, the only way we can ever advance our ideals besides violent revolution is through taking over the GOP.

really not sure at this point; I really really doubt I'll vote for Barr, but I'm not sure about Baldwin either.

I'd write in Ron Paul, but he specifically told us that it was not worth it (if he filed as a write-in candidate, however, I would do it)....that said, I still may do this for the heck of it.

I'll probably just pop in to vote on a few local issues in an effort to nix some taxes or increase personal liberty....if there aren't any issues like this, well....who knows.

Yeah, I noted that when I made up the .xml... I corrected it there. I've just been copying and pasting most of the names from previous polls, so I probably misspelled his name on the first and second poll too :(

tough one. my state's going obama unless he kills a us soldier on live television (actually, no, it'd still go for obama)

The PSL is one of the few remaining old-school American communists. By that I mean they take marching orders directly from the ghost of the USSR. For serious, they're down with Stalin and Mao and shit. It's honestly sort of disturbing.
SPUSA is pretty cool. There are a couple of things I disagree with them on, but they aren't democratic centralists so it's cool. Also Moore seems a swell guy.
SWP is still around? What the hell? AFAIK they're Trotskyist. And irrelevant.

There's a prohibition party?

I'm probably voting for Moore or Mickey Mouse. :)

SevenEyedJeff

I think maybe people are going for McCain because he doesn't have the charisma of an Obama and therefore, will be more stupid and idiotic looking like Bush, and he won't fool anybody with his policies.

Whereas Obama can sweet talk all of you little buttercups into licking the TV screen every time you see him. And you will go into tyranny because of that smile on Obama's face, because thou art full of folly.

If anyone's considering staying home.... PM me with your price :p

Last cycle's price/vote

George W. Bush (R) $367,227,801 / 62,040,610 = $5.92 per vote
John Kerry (D) $326,236,288 / 59,028,111 = $5.52
Ralph Nader (i) $4,566,037 / 463,653 = $9.85
Michael Badnarik (L) $1,093,013 / 397,265 = $2.75
Michael Peroutka (C) $729,087 / 144,498 = $5.05
David Cobb (G) $493,723 / 119,859 = $4.12
Walt Brown (SPUSA) $2,060 / 10,837 = $0.19

I'll trade you two Liberty Straw Poll tickets ($20 value), $10 directly to you for gas, or $15 to an organization of your choice for a Barr vote only if you were considering staying home (honor code...).

By the way, although I disagree with Ralph Nader on most economic issues, he is making the most noise about breaking up the current deadlocked debate format, ie, only Democrats and Republicans allowed. I have thought about donating to his campaign if it would help bring more attention to that issue.

We're not voting (my husband and I). Already played the lesser-of-two-evils voting game. The last 30 to 40yrs, or more, of Americans voting for the lesser-evil has been largely responsible for where we are today. We really don't want to be part of that process again. We only registered again last Fall to vote for Ron Paul.

Everyone here wanted change, but what do some do? Ron Paul doesn't win the nomination and they go back to the same-ol' same-ol'. These folks can support the State with their vote if they wish, but since, in theory, governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, we are, once again, withdrawing our consent.

I commend your logic. I don't necessarily agree with it but I understand your point.

Cascadian
09-05-2008, 08:16 PM
We weren't trying to make a point, really. Just stating why we choose not to vote in this election. If not for Ron Paul we would not have compromised our principles and voted in the primaries. We were even delegates! Another way of putting it, if not for Ron Paul we would not have set foot in the cesspool.

Even so, we would have written Ron Paul in, but as he pointed out, that is futile. We will continue to do what we think is right. We will not support a corrupt system by being willing participants. We will continue to spread the message of liberty, as we have for years.

Truth Warrior posted this on another thread, and it sums up our beliefs regarding government:

"I heartily accept the motto,—"That government is best which governs least"; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which also I believe—"That government is best which governs not at all"; and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have. Government is at best but an expedient; but most governments are usually, and all governments are sometimes, inexpedient. The objections which have been brought against a standing army, and they are many and weighty, and deserve to prevail, may also at last be brought against a standing government. The standing army is only an arm of the standing government. The government itself, which is only the mode which the people have chosen to execute their will, is equally liable to be abused and perverted before the people can act through it. Witness the present Mexican war, the work of comparatively a few individuals using the standing government as their tool; for in the outset, the people would not have consented to this measure." -- Henry David Thoreau "Civil Disobedience" ( 1st paragraph )
