As some here may already know, Ron Paul endorsed Don Young (http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=73468) in the Alaskan republican primary for the state's only U.S. House seat. Young was being challenged by Sean Parnell.

The results:

Young, Don E.: 42,461 votes

Parnell, Sean R.: 42,316 votes

Precincts Reporting: 429 of 438

It's not completely over, and it could possibly (and unlikely) go the other way...but I have to think Ron Paul's endorsement could have been what saved Don Young. He is leading by only 145 votes and Ron Paul got around 20% of the vote I believe in Alaska in the republican presidential primary.

Wow, that very well could be the case. 45% to 45%. Unless he's very polarizing in the GOP party there, looks like he'll win his GE without much difficulty.

I don't understand how this guy could have gotten Ron Paul's endorsement.

Young voted for the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 that started the Iraq War.[1]

During the debate in mid-February 2007 of a nonbinding resolution opposing President Bush's troop "surge" in Iraq, Rep. Young, who opposed the measure, falsely quoted Abraham Lincoln, stating, "Congressmen who willfully take action during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs, and should be arrested, exiled or hanged."

I liked Parnell better too. I'm just wondering out-loud how this election would have turned out if Paul had not endorsed Don Young or endorsed Sean Parnell.

It doesn't get much closer than that. I think Ron Paul saved him.

This post is from Alaskaron on DP

Sean Parnell, the Alaska Lt. Gov., is Young's major opponent. Parnell is a lackey of big oil and favors corporate welfare. His campaign is being bankrolled (70%+) by a lower-48 PAC who gives Ron Paul a 26% rating.

I don't like Sean Parnell--he is too slimy and squirrelly for my liking, and I have some serious issues with Don Young. But Don Young was willing to co-sponsor Dr. Paul's legislation to abolish the IRS and overturn the 16th amendment, and that is something few other congress-critters were willing to do. He also opposes the radical environmentalist agenda. I think these two things may have had an influence on Ron's endorsement.

Also remember that Ron Paul has spoken favorably of Dennis Kucinich, who is a big government socialist, who just happens to be right on foreign policy. Sometimes you need friends and allies all across the spectrum to get anywhere in this political game. Purists seldom get anywhere.

Do not understand this message of mine as an endorsement of Don Young, however, for it is not.

I think that new blood in Congress is what we need, and we are going towards a goal and need to accept taking smaller steps. RP once said for VP he would consider Kucinich, and I tell you, his domestic policies are STUPID and totally opposite RP's. That just shows you how accepting we need to be.

Yeah, a quick search found both Eric Dondero and Richard Viguerie complaining about the endorsement, so Paul may have been onto something after all.

May have been? I'm quite sure Dondero is wrong about everything ever. :D

There aren't other Ron Paul's out there in the establishment lets face it.

However there are some honest politicians out there, very few, who agree with Paul on some important issues, such as congressman Kucinich.

Mike Gravel anyone? Had to hold my nose when i typed that one.

They are all crooks for the most part, I am glad Paul supported him because this crook was trying to help Paul get rid of the IRS for all of us. We do not know everything, but that alone could be the reason he is being taken down.

I think you're confusing Don Young with Ted Stevens.
Need to do your research on the long series of tubes.:D

I disagree with RP on this one as Young was the one who wanted to waste $220+ million of taxpayer money for the "bridge to nowhere" and he also supported the Iraq war.

While reading the comments on news sites I even found a Ron Paul supporter who says he sent $100 to Parnell.

One news article said "'Shocking and Disappointing;' Texas Congressman 'Put Pork Ahead of Principle'"
