The contrast between Dickinson and Ron Paul supporter Richard Matthews, a candidate for Maryland's 2nd Congressional District who has signed up for a speaking slot, is not as sharp as one might think. Matthews said he has been running an anti-war campaign against Democratic incumbent Dutch Ruppersberger and wants to get the message out about his campaign.

"I kind of want to introduce myself as a Rich Matthews Republican, which is a little different from what's going on inside the convention," said Matthews, 28, adding that he's against nation-building and for fiscal conservatism.

Matthews and two other Maryland Republican candidates will speak early Sept. 3. By contrast, their speeches will be followed later in the day by a group called "Impeach for Peace."
