"The American way of life is not negotiable" is a quote from President George H. W. Bush in 1992. Andrew J. Bacevich uses this statement as a backdrop for what he considers to be the American "empire of consumerism", as noted in his book, "The Limits of American Power (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FLimits-Power-End-American-Exceptionalism%2Fdp%2F0805088156%3Fpf%5Frd%5Fp%3D4 09915101%26pf%5Frd%5Fs%3Dright-5%26pf%5Frd%5Ft%3D101%26pf%5Frd%5Fi%3D507846%26pf% 5Frd%5Fm%3DATVPDKIKX0DER%26pf%5Frd%5Fr%3D18SQJ7EMN DVV61VYJ6KN&tag=freeople-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325)".

Mr. Bacevich is a West Point graduate, former US Army Colonel, 23-year veteran who served in Vietnam, and currently an international relations expert at Boston University.

Watch these videos of his interview with Bill Moyers on PBS. Highly recommended.

I'm reading it now (70 pages into it) and boy does he rip Reagan and the so called Reagan Revolution apart...It's amazing to read a conservative attack Reagan's administration even cast blame on his administration for following through with the Carter Doctrine and grounding us so deeply in the middle east. But he believes it is an extension of most contemporary Americans' wanting more at any cost without bearing responsibility to acquire by modest/moral means.

Very, very interesting read so far.
