Cheerful news - Dr. Paul on Colbert (http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog/?p=341)

Dr. Paul will be on The Colbert Report on September 4th, right after the Rally for the Republic (and during the McCain coronation at the RNC).

These type of popular shows are such a great way to spread our message. We should all mark our calendars!

I don't think it would be a problem because the DNC is August 25th...

Am I the only one that believes the writers strike was engineered to keep these shows off the air during the critical campaign time to keep Ron Paul out of the white house?

No, I wrote about it at the time.

I didn't investigate it too much... but the timing was perfect.. satire; or humor is pretty much the only place such as Colbert and Stewart you get the truth in the MSM....

It was at the pinnacle of the primaries from what I remember.. right in the lead up.

There's a good 2 months ? Of coverage Ron Paul could have been given immense coverage.

Coincidence? ............ When was the last time Hollywood went on strike? ? Better yet; when was it the last time they did it during the primaries, or an election campaign?

No, but everyone runs on self interest.

IF the strike were part of the MSM conspiracy, then I think the more likely motive would have been to silence criticism of HillObama.

Yes, there was some other element I can't remember. But it seemed GLARINGLY obvious at the time.. is there a date we've got for the period, I'll try find what I wrote. :)

But that seems pretty right, there was like 1 month to go or some long ass time, before there was an end of the primaries or something and all the main candidates had dropped off / started too. i.e Giuliani etc. It's hard looking back down the memory hole, at the time it seemed to fit / be obvious / real strange.

yep
of course he added the typical "i don't agree with you on everything," but while he doesn't want to just "cut and run" he said he wishes we had a non-interventionist foreign policy all along, but it will take slow progression to get to that

I squeaked in. Paul was great, though the interview felt short and it was kinda all over the place. But it was very entertaining; he even got Stephen to break. If nothing else, it helps Paul's image.

Now I'm kinda wishing I didn't get in, as he left the building before we got out. I swear, I will have my Manifesto signed some day!

What makes you think TDS and Colbert were beneficial to RP's candidacy? They marginalized him at every chance they got.

Satire must always have a core of truth in it to be funny, or at least perceived truth in this case. When Colbert insinuates that Ron Paul is 'nutty', do you think the audience is laughing because they know it to be untrue?

Colbert is not a satire, hes a parody. I think there's a difference. He is playing the neo-con role so when he calls RP nutty, he doesnt think he's nutty, hes just going over the top with the neo-con rhetoric.

From every other previous experience I've had with Colbert, it has been in the 'support' category.

See: Ron Paul is insane. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKsC_0fMjr0)

As far as tonight's episode, I will have to see that tonight. (6 hrs) So I'll get back with my verdict. ;)

Weak interview.

You thought so? I thought it was fun, entertaining, while still being principled. Ron poked fun at the RNC while getting some pretty serious points across and it made me laugh, which Colbert usually doesn't get me to do.

What shows were you watching?

Maybe I really am watching a different Colbert than you all. Just in this interview Colbert implied that RP was anti-poor people, that fear of big brother is unfounded and that FEMA confiscation of guns was reasonable. He routinely implies that RP is anti-the poor and anti-children. Remember the 'libertarians want to give me the freedom to varnish in an unventilated room' remark when he interviewed Barr? What makes you all think he is anything but an enemy to freedom?

Maybe I am just perceptive, or delusional, but I've been watching Colbert since his show began. I used to watch it because I was a liberal, now I watch it for the laughs. It's a funny show, but you all shouldn't watch it if you are unable to see the blatantly socialist undertones.

Like devil21 said, Colbert is a parody of right-wing personalities (mostly of Bill O'Reilly), and that includes the ridiculous insults they usually dish out. On The Daily Show, Jon Stewart has defended RP more explicitly. Colbert has made the point that RP is talking sense when the rest of the GOP isn't.

You're right that they both lean "progressive". So yes, they disagree on some things and I'm not surprised if they've made that clear. But they've also clearly supported him at times, so it's not true that "they marginalized him at every chance they got".
