That would be great, but.... what would they do with all of the convicted Marijuana Prisoners, just let them go? It would probably take them a couple of years just to take care of all of the paperwork.

I imagine from the state's point of view it would be beneficial:

1. Increase Tax Revenue - Due to Extra work force in population.

2. Decrease Spending - Due to less prison inmates.

3. Increase pool of recruits for the military/police/other government positions - Due to Extra men and women in general population

4. Decrease Spending - Due to men and women helping their families with income, thus alleviating burden on welfare

5. Decrease Crime - Freed up Law Enforcement Resources focussed on violent crimes and other crimes on the books.

6. Decrease Crime - Marijuana Users less likely to commit offences in order to hide/support their habit.

7. Make CJS more efficient - The criminal justice system processing will be sped up due to the removal of the overheads and burdens related to marijuana crime processing.

8. Increase Tax Revenue - Marijuana could be taxed as a legitimate recreational and medicinal drug.

That's all I can think of the top of my head.

this would be a milestone in drug reform.
if one liberal state like nevada decrimed and then legalized and the rest of the nation saw the benefits, the drug war infrastructure would begin to crumble :D
