Enthusiasm gap plagues GOP convention (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12476.html)

Heh. Meanwhile, in Minneapolis...

“Nobody likes a funeral,” said a Senate Republican press secretary who spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing “the overall climate of general malaise about the party” as the reason for hesitance on the part of Republicans.

I know, schaudefreude is a bad thing, but...

HA ha!!:D

lmfao!
The lack of enthusiasm has been a source of frustration for venue owners close to the convention hall at the Xcel Center. Some of them were struggling until recently to meet their reservation expectations .

“We certainly weren’t alone, a lot of venues hadn’t heard anything and were kind of wondering what might of happened,” said David Miller, general manager of the St. Paul Hotel.

From the comment section, it sounds as though a lot of these readers don't know about our Rally. Post! Post! Post!

Nader showing up too, funny

See? There will be entertainment!

Oh, wait. He'll be outside, too, won't he? Never mind.

Maybe they should let him in. Can he juggle?

Looking to prune-faced Nader for entertainment. McCain and Co. are a bunch of sad sacks, aren't they?

So lets see, we now have the Eisenhower family, the Goldwater family, Chuck Hagel, Colin Powell, numerous GOP Congressmen and GOP Mayors all rejecting the Neo-Conservative message.

Additionally over 1/2 dozen GOP US Senators are skipping McCain's glorious debut at the GOP convention.

I wonder if this has anything with the Neo-Conservatives alienating the traditional Constitutional Conservatives? I suspect there will be many more conservative leaders and icons leave the party rejecting this message of debt, loss of liberties, war and fascism.

When the Eisenhower family is rejecting the Party we have problems.

so, according to the article, lower than normal turnout is due to
1. Minneapolis' distance from DC (as compared to the Dem's visit to Denver??)
2. School starting (that's hilarious)
3. Labor Day weekend (doesn't that make it easier to take timeoff?)
4. Minneapolis is just not as fun as NYC was in '04 (so R's go to conventions for the tourism possibilities outside the convention, not for the actual work of platform, candidate selection, etc....)

Also mentioned, Rock the Vote will participate much less in Minn. than in Denver, presumably because the youth won't be at the Rep. nat'l convention with as many numbers as the Dem. convention.

And lastly, less lobbyists will be at the R convention.

I've rarely seen so much attempted spin in one article as this one. Just come out and say it -- the Republican convention is not being attended this year because the top of the ticket is actually a liberal, and Republicans have been acting, talking, and voting liberal for the past several years. All the liberals are going to Denver. And conservatives need not be in Minneapolis, they're obviously not welcome. So the Rep. convention will only be attended by folks who don't really have a political leaning, but just like to 'be with my kind of people'.

And of course the lobbyists don't need to hang around Republicans anymore, since they won't be in control of any purse strings come November.

And youth? who needs youth in the Republican party? We ran those young'uns off - heck they mostly were runnin' around screaming about some crazy Ron Paul guy anyway.

excellent stuff, JS4Pat.

Yes, we did try and warn them. Yes, we did. We stood up, left our homes, and entered into a process we had never ventured into before, and tried to warn them. And we were handed our hats back. Let the party burn. From the ashes, hopefully, the phoenix of constitutional liberty will rise.

PM me we just picked up the last slot on Thursday, it's wide open none of us can use it, we'll be elsewhere, but we thought that since it was there, it's first come first serve.
