.. california is sooo as backwards and so deep with special interests it is doomed to move into third world providence. Trust me, in 15 years this place will be a shithole -- more than it already is.

This is the kind of knuckleheadery that prevails here:

(from Walter Moore, running for Major of Los Angeles)

The Los Angeles City Council has on its agenda Item No. 36, a motion to obtain a $1.6 million grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The money, however, would not be spent in our city, our even our county, or even our nation.

Instead, our City's Department of Cultural Affairs -- funded with your tax dollars -- wants to spend $300,000 to build a "showcase pavillion" in Mexico for the Guadalajara International Book Fair. The remaining $1.3 million would go into a dedicated trust fund, to be used only for the "Guadalajara Book Fair."

The City Council -- the same group that is too busy to vote on Jamiel's Law -- will take up this issue as part of its 10:00 a.m. calendar, in Room 340 at City Hall, 200 North Spring Street, L.A., CA 90012.

I know this makes you mad. It should make you mad. But "mad" isn't good enough.

If you want to end the infuriating, obscene excuse for "government" we have in the City of L.A., you must take action. That means contribute as much as you can, as fast as you can, to my campaign. If you don't contribute, I can't buy the ads I need to reach new people. That's just the way it is.

You can also help spread the word by putting one of my bumper stickers on your cars, getting your friends to sign up for my newsletter, signing up for a yard sign, printing out flyers from my website and taking them to the next meeting of your civic club, and anything else you can think of. But you have to do something or the bad guys win. Click here to take action.http://web.mac.com/waltermoore/WalterMooreForMayor/Volunteer.html

And to those of you who have already contributed, gotten the bumper sticker, signed up for the yard sign, handed out flyers, etc., thank you. I truly appreciate your taking action. It is because of you that new people join our ranks every day.

The ONE thing Huckster ever said that I liked was when he was pandering to us and said "as governor of a state, I couldn't just print money like the Fed can."

Bottom line is, the states are broken from inflation more than anything else. Mine's a tax and spender, but inflation is the real problem.

I just watched a speech by NY Governor David Paterson last week where he stated they would be cutting many state jobs too.

15+ billion in debt and getting steepper by the year. The only way to make up the shortfall is the raise taxes AS it has been shown year after year that the legislature will not control spending. SO, by raising taxes - and pushing out business and reducing the viability of the middle class, what do you think will happen?

... and I am not even bringing up the complete dumbing down of the school system etc..

I guess we'll just have to give it a couple years to wait and see..

Yeah I can see why. Hey, a quick question. In California are there a lot of those people who where Obama shirts, tree huggers, PETA armbands, go to Starbucks a lot, and always blame "conservatism" for every problem in their life?

you got it, these diehards that can't think straight are still enamored by Pelosi, not to mention Obama is regarded as the savior here, they will jump off the cliff if he says it's for the their benefit. I know he wants to implement some sort of citizen police task force, and you will have millions of youth joining and being further brainwashed into thinking that government intervention into "everything" is the only way a civilized society can function.

What is so wrong with him getting rid of government jobs or lowering their pay? That is a good thing. Do you want them to go into more debt or tax more?

It is this type of economic problem which can cause a massive voter revolt against the incumbents.

California has always had a liberal streak punctuated by periods where conservatives or republican gain power for limited periods of time.

the main source of california's budget problems are all the unpaid-for referendums that have been passed year after year. People here will vote for any nice-sounding resolution, without thinking about whether the state budget can really pay for it or not.

on top of that, theres all the welfare that judges have forced us to dole out to illegals and a tax system thats skewed to really only make money off rich people...so when the rich people leave when the economy goes bad (as it has over the past few years) the budget suffers an unbelievable shortfall
