HOUSTON — The wife of Republican Rep. Ron Paul was in serious but stable condition Monday at a Houston hospital, a spokesman for the congressman said.

Carol Paul was in the critical care unit at an unidentified hospital, spokesman Jesse Benton said in a statement.

Benton would not disclose why Carol Paul was admitted to the hospital Monday, only saying "she has had several abdominal surgeries."

Paul "appreciates the outpouring of concern and good wishes during this difficult time," Benton said.

A Texas congressman from Lake Jackson, Ron Paul was the Libertarian Party nominee for president in 1988 and ran unsuccessfully for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination. His campaign, which was a sensation on the Internet, drew support from Republicans, independents and Democrats.

We should make a virtual get well card for Carol.

A virtual card shows only virtual support.

We need an address to mail her real get-well cards. But Ron Paul may well wish to keep that private and I can respect that.

She is a very kind lady and is in my prayers. I would like to share my encounter with her which is very special to me.

My story won't make sense if I don't explan who I am. I am the brain child of November 5th that proposed the online donation with the V video.

I was at the Simi Valley debate after rally holding a copy of the New York Times article that mentioned me as the orginator of the idea. (The Web Finds it's Candidate)

It said this...

As for the record one-day fund-raising, he said, “I had nothing to do with it,” adding that he had so far neglected to thank the people responsible. (James Sugra, 28, of Huntington Beach, Calif., acting on his own, posted an online video proposing one big day of fund-raising; Trevor Lyman, 37, of Miami Beach, then independently created a site, www.thisnovember5th.com, that featured the video.)

I walked up to Carol and said you know their going to have to write this article again.

Carol said; why is that?

I told her in the article I am holding it says Ron Paul neglected to thank the people responsible. I just had an opportunity to meet Ron Paul for the first time and he thanked me.

Carol laughed and said it was a pleasure to meet me.

The body guard overheard my connversation he took off his VIP pass. He handed it to Carol and she autographed it and handed it to me. Then she signed the Newspaper article and wrote many thanks. The thing about the day that really stuck out was my encounter with Ron Paul he said something to me I will never forget.

He said there will always be to many people to thank and it's ideas like these that make it all worth while. It was a very humbling experiance to meet them both. For the record the idea found me it had a life of it's own from the conception, as you all know. Out of honor of the 38,000 people who donated and particpated I never did any media interviews.

Thank you Carol you are a true inspiration.

I hope it wasn't an abdominal aneurysm :(

A triple "A" isn't so bad if it gets diagnosed and operated on before you bleed to death (internally)... It's tragic when it's missed or ignored.

Let's hope our good Doctor has good professional (highly skilled) friends to give Carol the kind of top notch care one would expect to see in a free market.

A silent prayer has been sent.

The best way I know to show my support is to help pick up the slack for all she has done and continues to do.

It's somewhat ironic, but I was just informed that my own Mom landed in the hospital yesterday. My Mom's ok. She's over 80 and the pause between her heartbeats was too long so they installed a pacemaker. Evidently a slow pace of the heartbeat causes one to feel dizzy or faint. Unless Carol injured herself from fainting, I can't see how abdominal surgeries would be related to her pacemaker. We'll know eventually and the outpouring of support for Carol not only encourages Ron but our cause as well. God Bless Carol!

Feels like one of the family!

Bearing people in mind with kindness and well-wishing when they are in crisis works!..the more who do it the more effective.

A story Elizabeth Kubla Ross told once paraphrased:
Guy nearly dies and its at a football match. As it is slowing up the football proceedings, the almost dead person becomes acutely aware of unpleasant toxic feelings and thoughts coming his way, given he has left his body. (By this time they are trying to bring him back from the Vortex with CPR) There is a traffic jam and he senses anger and irritation everywhere. Then he hones in on one car of one woman who is praying for him. He took her number plate.
He is brought round and later when he is well, he tracks her down, goes and visits her (much to her surprise) and lets her know how much it meant that she was bearing him in mind.

So my many 'get well soon Carol' wishes are winging across the Pacific for you.

Update on Carol Paul from the C4L Blog (http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog/?p=324)

I am sure many Campaign for Liberty members saw this AP story overnight.

Carol, or Luvie as she is known to her family and most of Brazoria County, Texas, is fighting hard, and remains in serious but stable condition. She has excellent doctors who are optimistic that another surgery later today (her third in five days) will be successful and start her on the road to recovery. Dr. Paul and a steady rotation of children and grandchildren remain steadfastly by her side.

Please remember Luvie tonight in your prayers.

Yes depending on exactly what was done it could take a few weeks to a few months, and you know if that is the case, I think Ron should stay by her side even it it means missing the rally, if she needs him. I mean, this is his wife, the light of his life here. Hopefully she won't need any further surgeries. Thank goodness the operation was a success!

Carol remains in the CCU in serious but stable condition. She has given us some big scares over the past 48 hours, but things appear to be improving and there is room for cautious optimism.

Dr. Paul remains constantly by her side. Sons Rand and Robert have flown in from out of town to give her extra support, and her other children and grandchildren are camped out at the hosptial to lend whatever help they can.

Carol is a wonderful woman, and the love she inspires in her family and friends is testament to the generosity of her spirit. We are all pulling so hard for her.
