In addition to hotels, motels, lake cabins, campgrounds, and hospitable local RP supporters, there's also plenty of Bed and Breakfasts in the areas surrounding Minneapolis/St. Paul.

I always think of the movie Groundhog Day when I think "Bed and Breakfast."

A bed and breakfast is perfect for a boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife couple.

Most of the ones I found using Google were charging between $100 - $250 / night. I set my budget for under $125 / night. I'm staying at one in Stillwater, MN --- 30-45 min drive from downtown Minneapolis (and I got a discounted rate for traveling by myself - so my rate is under $100 / night :D).

You'll like Stillwater, beautiful downtown on the St. Croix river.

There's a beautiful old 1884 mansion right across the street from my place-

It's most of the view out my front window, they're a bed & breakfast now. The place even got mention in a collection of midwest ghost tales called 'Haunted Heartland' a number of years back. In that story it was referred to as the Jameson Mansion after the then-current owners, but the Rands built it, they're still a prominent family name around here. Don't know what they're charging or if they're available right then but here's their site:

Mpls/St Paul area B&B's:

I believe the Excelsior Mn B&B right in Ms. Stebbins' back yard is already spoken for and taken in its entirety by our group.

Looks like they have some rooms available too - Google says a ~45 min drive from downtown.

If you like scenic then gravitate towards the ones in CNJ's temp neighborhood along the St Croix, in particular. Some very dramatic high stone riverbluffs especially around Taylor's Falls on the St. Croix, just a bit north of Stillwater. Stillwater itself is a very beautiful old river town full of shops, boutiques, and restaurants. If you want a quick shot in and out again both days, googlemap the various communities linked in the map on the b&b site I linked and pick one very near an interstate. Though rush hour conditions can make the Interstates a longer than anticipated trip- and I should also warn that Monday afternoon is likely to present thick interstate traffic as all the Labor Day Week-Enders will be heading back into the metro from lake homes and such, slower-moving RV's and boats on trailers will be very prevalent.

Not sure how many of these have vacancies, but this is a good resource for some Bed and Breakfasts around the Twin Cities.

Today the Mpls city council set new cab fare rates at $2.50 flag drop, meaning the meter begins ticking at $2.50, then $2.35/mile from there. $5.00 minimum fare. Of those figures, the only one that increased was the per/mile charge, was $1.90 and had been since '05.

The question got raised somewhere recently, I forget exactly where.

(Bump)

And I was just wondering how helpful this thread has been. Has anyone else out there considered the Bed & Breakfast idea?
