any real polls?

The ex-Attorney General Marc Dann (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Dann#Resignation_as_Attorney_General) (D) resigned from office because scandals and the Republicans have been involved in scandals in the past as well.

This is quite literally the perfect time to get control of Ohio Attorney General. Robert Owens is running as an Independent Candidate.

Not a chance :(

No independant/Libertarian/Constitution candidate is going to win significant office in November.

He should've run as a Republican.

In the Ohio local election, nearly all the Republican candidates lost. It's the perfect time to run as an independent.

Owens is reaching out to the Republicans though.

Independent candidate: I'm a constitutionalist

Columbus Dispatch

Robert Owens, the first declared candidate for Ohio attorney general in the November special election, introduced himself today to a tiny media contingent as a "constitutionalist" who will keep special interests at bay.

Owens, a 34-year-old Delaware lawyer, said he'd work to restore the integrity of an office stained by the actions of Marc Dann, a Democrat who resigned amid scandal May 14.

"Integrity through independence," Owens intoned. "That is why I am compelled to run for the office of attorney general."

Owens last man standing after showdown

http://owens2008.com/2008/08/owens-last-man-standing-after-showdown/

This article from PolitickerOH (http://www.politickeroh.com/candidates-stump-favor-guns-start-ag-campaign) sums up yesterday’s gun rights event rather well.

Most audiences wear cell phones on their belts, but those gathered at Liberty Park on Sunday wore loaded handguns too.

About 100 members of Ohioans for Concealed Carry heard from all three attorney general candidates at the group’s annual picnic. State Treasurer Richard Cordray (D-Pleasant Twp), former U.S. Attorney Mike Crites (R-Powell) and attorney Robert Owens (I-Delaware) introduced themselves to the audience and explained how they would operate as attorney general, especially regarding guns.

Owens, a member of Ohioans for Concealed Carry, said as attorney general he would push to change the law so that people are not required to have a license to carry a gun in Ohio, similar to Alaska.

Owens said this position rests on his belief that common citizens are the best crime fighters.

“You look at yourself in the mirror every day and that’s the best source of fighting crime,” Owens told the crowd with a .357 revolver holstered on his hip.

While Robert Owens strongly supports local law enforcement, the best deterrent to violent crime has always been a virtuous, vigilant, and armed citizenry. We rely on first responders, crime solvers, prosecutors, and corrections professionals for a well-ordered society. We honor their service, but cannot abdicate our own responsibilities as citizens.

As a note on this event: it was interesting to have the other two candidates basically crashing a Robert Owens campaign event. When Rich Cordray is quoting Robert (”as Robert said…”), you know this is an event in Robert’s wheelhouse. You actually have to give the other guys a little credit for showing up.
