It's been frustrating for me to not be able to get any idea of what Obama's core beliefs are. McCain's is easy (America must rule the world!).

This article gives a little insight, but it seems even back when he was a professor he kept his opinions to himself. Instead he got his students to debate and tried to gauge their beliefs. He obviously had a serious political career in mind even way back then.

He obviously had a serious political career in mind even way back then.Playing devil's advocate, it would be nice to have a candidate that actually listens to people. Having students debate among themselves is a better (and arguably more free) teaching style than telling people what is so, and that is that.
