Anyone who is on the ballot in enough states to conceivably win the presidency should be in the debates.

Of course, they'll say that too many choices would just "confuse" the voters. We all know how much Americans hate choice.

I say if they're on the ballot in like five states, sure! =)

Yes. Bob Barr should be allowed into the debates, but so should Dr. Chuck Baldwin.

Of course. But the networks have put a requirement of having 10% in national polling and Barr is not going to get it.

Oops, actually the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has a 15% rule on this article that has Barr at 3% and Nader at 6%.

It will be hard for him to get more popularity/name recognition until mid September as long as the big 2 lay low during the Olympics and with 2 conventions and VP choices taking all of the press.

Guess his strategy is to wait until after the GOP convention ends on Sept 3rd and then a few days for the media to stop talking about it and the Democratic party's reaction, then surge within 1 week in popularity to make the numbers in the polls a week before the first debate on Sept 26th...

I doubt there will be more than 2 debates.

I think the requirements should be either be on the ballot in all 50 states OR be polling 10% nationally (not the current 15%).

I do think there should be a minimum requirement line. I'm sorry, but no one needs all those 0.002% wannabes wasting everyones' time in the presidential debates.

To member whose username is idiom :

You're the only one who voted no. Why did you vote no?

I think that instead of having only two people that can ever qualify, they should have the four highest polling candidates on the stage.

That would probably mean democrats, republicans, and a right-wing-esque party and a left-wing esque party.

But that would eliminate the third-party candidates that cannot mount the serious challenge, but give an actual choice.

I doubt there will be more than 2 debates.

I read somewhere that there are 3 debates scheduled and 1 VP debate as well.
