You know who we really need at the event: Rush. They are perfect Ron Paul people and the songs fit in nicely. Tom Sawyer would be a nice "anthem." Didn't they just go off tour?

Rush absolutely rocks the house. I've seen them live twice, and very recently at that. They've still got it.
Amazing, simply amazing.

I was listening to Rush in High School.
I graduated in 1976.
They rocked then.
I know I have a joint stashed somewhere...

Either you love 'em or you hate 'em. Personally, I love them. I've seen them twice at Target Center, actually. The biggest downside to having Rush at the Rally is they're Canadians.:D
If they really wanted the Rally to get some big headlines and sell out quick, they could get Prince. Not that I particularly like Prince, but any time he does anything in MN, it's major news. Even better, IMHO, would be Bob Dylan, but Dylan stays away from anything political (despite his political lyrics).

I used to hate them too. Mostly due to Geddy's singing. But age has mellowed that voice and now I absolutely love Rush. I just don't listen to their early recordings. ;)

Hello, anybody out there?
Has anyone from the Rally for the Republic organizing body contacted entertainers to perform at the rally? If not, the organizers need to get on with it while there is still time! We need to pack the stadium.
The rally will be an awesome opportunity for some well known groups to make a few bucks. They would not have to charge a fee to make money. They could set up stands at the entrance to the stadium and sell their CDs and DVDs to the 7500-plus folks attending the rally. They could have their own signing event.

It sounds like they have all the headliners signed on, they just haven't released who they are yet.
Don discusses it a little somewhere in this thread:

Rush would be awesome.
I read somewhere that Adam Curry "opened his rolodex" for them..... I just hope they got a big name like Rush to agree to play.

Saw them in concert three weeks ago. Excellent show, and their new material is as libertarian as ever.

I LOVE Rush and the libertarian/objectivist lyrics in many of their songs are just perfect for our times!

It wouldn't be the first time I seen Rush in the target center. :)
I seen Rush and Primus there many many moons ago.
The two best bass players in the world.
This thread makes want to break out my Rush in RIO dvd...
but, ahh, Primus...I haven't treated myself with Claypool's string work n lyrical prowess in a while...thanks for reminding me. :)
2 from their early work Frizzle Fry:
Too Many Puppies
Too many puppies are being shot in the dark.
Too many puppies are trained not to bark.
At the sight of blood that must be spilled so that
We may maintain our oil fields.
Too many puppies
Too many puppies are taught to heal.
Too many puppies are trained to kill.
On the command of men wearing money belts that buy
Mistresses sleek animal pelts.
Too many puppies.
Too many puppies with guns in their hands.
Too many puppies in foreign lands.
Are dressed up sharp in suits of green and
Placed upon the war machine.
Too many puppies are just like me.
Too many puppies are afraid to see.
The visions of the past brought to life again,
Too many puppies, too many dead men.
To Defy the Laws of Tradition
What if Christmas didn't come this year
and no one paid for Christmas cheer?
Who would cry the biggest tear,
the child or the store?
Why do brides wear virgin white?
Most do not deserve that right.
But to choose a color of their delight
would surely bring on the frowns.
To defy the laws of tradition
is a crusade only of the brave.
Suppose the taxman, he comes to town,
and you don't lay your money down.
Yet Mr. Jones he killed Mr. Brown the other day.
Well I wonder, who's gonna go to hell.
Yea, I love Rush too. Guilty pleasure, but Grace Under Pressure, Hemispheres, and Presto are 3 of the best albums ever.
That said, the Canadian thing is a problem for this event. Don't get me wrong, I love Can-Rock. Anyone who hasn't heard Matthew Good, Headstones, or David Usher (St Lawrence River) should treat themselves to some youtubin'.
Plus they cost like 300k for a special gig like this...I did ask.

I was at that concert! '94 I think. I still remember Les Claypool singing some crazy fast lyrics, while playing some insane base riffs, while hopping around the stage on one foot with a smile on his face. It was truly amazing.
I also saw Rush with Eric Johnson in '91.
