So, I went to a local community Issues Night with people from across the political spectrum. There were about 30 people present and several supported Ron Paul. The tables divided up into groups of 4 and they discussed the issues. Then we were to share with the room what we felt the most important issue is.

I cited the Constitution's Habeas clause. Then I discussed Habeas Corpus (jurisdiction of court's removed in the MCA 2006) and the Halliburton temporary detention and processing centers. Most people were completely unaware of and greatly surprised by the legislation or government contract. I got to plug Ron Paul because he has pledged he 'would never abuse Habeas Corpus.' I also dissed the other candidates by saying 'I am unaware of any other candidate, Republican or Democrat, who has addressed this issue. In fact, one even wants to double Gitmo.'

The President of the Republican club for a very wealthy part of our city was there and invited us (Ron Paul supporters) to speak at the Republican club. I urge everyone to go get involved in the local community clubs and raise these critical issues.

Should you wish to do the same; here is Halliburton's own press release (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.halliburton.com%2Fdefault%2Fm ain%2Fhalliburton%2Feng%2Fnews%2Fsource_files%2Fpr ess_release%2F2006%2Fcorpnws_012606.pdf&ei=JyzWRoaYJ5DugASdoq31DA&usg=AFQjCNH1MBuGwrlK0WnWSiD_N0p_MdD2zg&sig2=4EUJ7K2tx5c6yLxs6iFQOQ)from their own website about the concentration camps capable of holding 2 million people. It is at the bottom of page 5. If you wave it around that may add even more creditability and believability to the potential abuse of power.

Man, you must live in a dead-ass town. :D

We don't have 'issues night' where I live. We have 'buy crack in the projects and get shot at night' around these parts. :p

Haha. We got those parts of town also (1.2M). But this is strong Bush country, won like 60% in 2004, and the President of the Republican party out here is asking us to come talk to them about Ron Paul. ..... the GOP is throwing this race to the Queen but the local GOP members don't know it yet.

As for the Democrats at the meeting, with all their save the trees bumper stickers in the parking lot, all I can say is they looked like deers in the headlights when I started talking about the Halliburton contracts. In fact, three people (two with fairly socialist learning views based on their issues and how to resolve them) brought up my comments when it was their turn to speak. Remember, the MSM has hid this from the people so we ought to bring it to their attention.

I did have one guy who seemed to think it was fine that we got rid of Habeas Corpus because we did it in WWII and the Civil War. I didn't take much stock in his opinion though because he had the reasoning ability of a walrus and sort of looked like one. I was nice and civil though.
