I was watching the hearings on CSPAN and a congresswoman said the President's oath to the Constitution is vital to protect "our democracy." lol, what?

I've heard others stressing the importance of "our democracy" during this as well. ????

The more contemporary use of democracy has been used to mean a representative constitutional republic. But, I don't think it should be because it changes how people see what the role of government ought to be.
