The Article is here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25630796/): http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25630796/

And there's a link to the Poll in the middle titled "Where do you stand on guns in parks?"

When i voted the poll results were:

State laws should apply - 17%
It should not be allowed - 39%
Concealed weapons should be allowed in all national parks, regardless of state law - 16%
Concealed weapons and "open carry" should be allowed in all national parks, regardless of state law - 28%

You know what to do :-)

I just got this from the Brady Bunch mailing list.
Is it wrong to wish a bear attack upon Sarah Brady in a national park?

Help Protect Our National Parks! Sign Our Petition Today!

Dear Eric,

We need your help to protect our National Parks — and we only have a short time to do it!

Bowing to pressure from the gun lobby, the Department of Interior has proposed changing federal regulations to allow more loaded and concealed handguns in National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges. This proposed rule would make our parks and refuges less safe and must be stopped!

We must stop the gun lobby's agenda for America, which clearly seems to be "any gun, anywhere for any one."

Under the current regulations (from the Reagan-era), individuals with permits to carry loaded, concealed handguns are not allowed to bring them into National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges unless they are unloaded and safely stored.

But the gun lobby pressured Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne and in April, he proposed weaker regulations.

The proposed change in regulation is open for public comment — but only for a few weeks. We need you to help us stop this misguided, unnecessary, and dangerous step! Please sign our petition today — we will add your name to our growing list and submit it to the Secretary of the Interior for you.

The gun lobby's proposal is a terrible idea that will have tragic consequences. Park rangers, environmental groups, and others who enjoy our parks and wildlife areas oppose it.

Please sign our petition telling the Administration that allowing loaded and concealed handguns into our nation's parks, preserves, monuments, memorials, and refuges would be a threat to the safety of park visitors and wildlife, and put already overburdened park rangers at risk. We will deliver the petition to Secretary Kempthorne at the Department of Interior before the deadline.

Why would we want to put hikers, campers, and families at risk by introducing loaded, hidden handguns into our national parks and refuges? The Department of Interior must not adopt the proposed rule changes.

And please help us spread the word. Tell others who care about having safe National Parks — hikers, campers, and families — to sign our petition.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Sarah Brady [pic]Sarah's Signature [image]

Aren't national parks property of the federal government? If so, theoretically, the recent Heller case could apply to the parks as well since Heller was about federal land to begin with.

Heller clearly applies to whatever rules the Federal government enforces in National Parks. Of course we don't know HOW the courts would apply Heller in this particular case.

The Ocala Nat'l Forest just north of Orlando has many transients and hippies living in their area. Guns are prohibited. People have been raped and killed while on day hikes in this forest because they were unable to protect themselves in the park.

You can search for it on http://news.google.com if you want
