State workers deserve better than this. Schwarzenegger is a tool of the Republican right, and their aim is to destabilize the government by underfunding it, and weakening it. A strong state needs the complete, full functionality of its government. By the people, for the people, of the people. Don't fall for the tired ruse of government employees being your enemy. The enemy is unchecked capitalist pigs and big business that is screwing us all over and leaving everybody sick and needy.

Sockmonkey, arnold declined his 200,000 per year salary. He's doing this job for free. Unlike all the state employees who are overpaid. UC Berkeley Police chief paid 200,000 per year?!

Of course, the Marxist Dems will call for tax increases, driving even more businesses and wealthy people out of California in a negative downward spiral. For your information, since California passed its "millionaires' tax" which raised the state income tax to 10.3% on incomes over $1 million, the number of families and wealthy individuals who pay this tax has declined 57%, from 44,000 in 2000 to less than 19,000 last year. If the left would only learn the First Rule of Economics: Whatever you want less of, just tax it.

the problem is it will only be until the budget is enacted. a permanent 20% across the board cut for all state and local employees would be better.

Cool, maybe they'll get real jobs then.

"In tax year 2007, the State of California had more than 38,000 full-time employees with total pay over $100,000. More than 100 state workers earned more than $100,000 just in overtime pay. Others boosted their regular pay with bonuses, premium pay, lump sum payouts and other extra earnings."

And I'd bet most have pensions.

One of the only things I could think Arnold did that was a good thing.

Wow. Expect California to make an economic come back.
When the economy is a shambles, taxes should be lowered as the pay of government workers are cut.
We tend to forget that all government is Marxist while there is no such thing as a capitalist one. Of course, the capitalists are just as ignorant of this fact as the Marxists.
They should all be lined up and shot.
