Technology, wouldn't Nixon be a "moderate" since noeconism didn't really exist back then... I think...

I think...

How involved were we with isreal during that time period... especially right after vietnam.
Kissinger? that's a familiar name. nixon took us off the gold standard.
that started the LP.
Nixon was conspiracy oriented. He spied on his opposition abusing his office.
Sounds like G.W.

I mean the word was invented by the neocons themselves because they thought it would be cool. But I guess calling Nixon a neocon is like calling T. Jefferson a libertarian.

I know, I am really interested in this history, but I wasn't even alive during the Reagan administration. Maybe someday I'll read a book =o

It's a shame though! Especially because he is a role model to the neocons. I bet if he knew that, though, he'd be pretty pissed.

Israel's agents work through both parties.. they put money into both parties...
They don't care about this country, just its resources. This is a result of an entangling alliance. we have inherited Israel's enemies. That is so stupid.

I think Reagan died a neocon... he was elected a libertarian... somewhere in between- they got to him. he finally broke.
Listen to Reagan's early speeches. like the one he did for Barry Goldwater out in California. Reagan was a real libertarian. A new recruit from the democratic party. Someone who appreciated both economic and social freedom. Limited government. Self-reliance. He stumped on this message.
I would like to think..at that point in his life he really believed it.

To me, that's the same thing. If you fall to temptation, or they scare you.. or threaten you... or all of the above... its all the same.

I would have thought you were privy to this already. Bush's were friends with the Hinckley's (not so coincidently). Their ties went all the way back to the 60's. Neil Bush was even scheduled to have dinner with the Hinckley's the day after the assas attempt.

I'll let you do the rest of the math.

I voted for Reagan specifically due to his libertarianism. I always thought that's what attracted the Republicans to him so much. His ability to give good speeches, and seeming ability to reach all Americans regardless of party, attracted a lot of people to him.

He was the first president I voted for, but I liked what he said. For those of you too young to remember, there was an Islamic Revolution in Iran. The Shah was removed from power, and left the country. Supposed "students" had stormed the U.S. Embassy and were holding U.S. Citizens hostage. The hostage thing went on for what, 400+ days(?). Weakness on the part of Jimmy Carter, prompted Americans to choose a no-nonsense president. Reagan was the clear choice. On his first day as president, all the hostages were released.

President Reagan had his fair share of vetoes, so he didn't capitulate immediately. I think some of his trouble was the Democratic majority he had to deal with. Remember, all a president can do is sign a bill, they can't create them. They can, however, ask for legislation to get something done. His second term was probably more succesful in that the Republicans had control of the Senate, if I remember correctly.

I'm wondering if isolation from the people *really* is the problem. I believe in what he said while running for president, and I don't think it was an act.

Perhaps its just the isolation from the people when any politicians goes to washington. This isn't the first time we've heard this. It seems to happen to all politicians. Maybe the president needs to meet with the people more to get a sense of what their feeling, and our representatives need to spend much more time in their home districts and states.

Sorry for the long post. I think this is an important topic. I didn't mean to perpetuate the tangent topic not related to the thread topic.

The Iranian Hostage Crisis Day #XYZ. Oh God, who could forget it? Wasn't that the beginning of non-stop, obsessive news reporting? People voted for Reagan to get Ted Koppel to stifle! Seriously.

Reagan was a small-government guy, but the 55 mph speed limit, 21-yr-old drinking age, and the war on drugs really ruined the mood. Maybe it was the assassination attempt.

… and the popularizing of deficit financing
… and expanding the military industrial complex

His rhetoric was small-government minded, but his reign was far from it.

He was all talk and no walk like the rest of 'em

I'm confused. Was there an announcement about this or is this just wishful thinking?

It was mentioned by Don from CFL in his question/answer thread that other entertainers may/will be booked in the near future, including a legendary country act.
He didn't give any names... so the speculation started...as in Willie Nelson...or a whole host of other names he listed as people he'd consider country legends.
