They are not. Thanks for acknowledging this before everybody starts beating on my generation with the big, ugly sheep stick.

not really an astounding percent of 3% but did get 6% in 1912...I wonder how much of the Socialist Party platform of the early 20th century has been absorbed by the Rep and Dem parties?

"Socialism in America will come through the ballot box."
by: Gus Hall
[Arvo Gustav Halberg ] (1910-2000) leader of the Communist Party USA and its four-time U.S. presidential candidate
Source: in an interview with the Cleveland Plain-Dealer (1996)

I really seriously doubt that Gus was mainly referring to the GOP there. ;)

Bullshit. From what I can see, it's the elderly and baby-boomers who are largely responsible for government centralization and rampant militarism in this country, and who spearheaded the post-9/11 revenge hysteria. They also rival minorities when it comes to supporting expansionist policies.

Typically, as people get older, they tend to care less about freedom. All they care about are their SS checks and a cozy pedestal from which to vilify the youth they're so jealous of.

They seem to have voted for Bush who expanded medicare(or medicade?) and John McCain is a welfare state kind of guy. The southern seniors probably like their free health benefits.
