Actually, not sharing an opinion on anything else, but yes -- philandering is quite commonly used in that context.


ETA - just like a "philanderer" is used to describe a man who cheats on his wife with several partners; in politics, a "philanderer" is a politician who 'cheats on' his base by pandering to groups his base opposes.

IOW, John McCain claims to be a strong 2nd Amendment rights advocate, but he is a philanderer because he speaks to the Brady Bunch.

They should be slammed for what they're trying to advertise right there. Trust me if it said "Don't Vote Ron Paul" with that billboard, this whole thread would be a uproar 20 pages long.
