Just a year ago, it was a universal fact that everything needed to be manufactured in China. China was designated "the world's factory", and every product needed to be sourced and shipped from China. What a difference a year makes.

With an explosion of volume moving to China, the Chinese labor costs rose 12% in 2007, and 15% in 2008. The RMB continues to rise dramatically against the dollar, and the threat of inflation continues to threaten the nation. Steel prices are rising fast, and demand is tight.

But there's another factor at play: the efficiency of the operation. China's efficiency hasn't improved to the extent to make it competitive in areas that are threatened by labor, fuel, commodities, and other inflationary costs.

This gives hope to a "Morning in America" for America's Manufacturing industry.
