With the recent worries from the community about organizations taking advantage of fund raising I think it should be made more clear how freeople.com handles donations to both groups and candidates....

1 - Candidates sign up and can choose their own method of fund delivery (wire transfer, regular mail, overnight courier, or paypal)

2 - Freeople transaction fees are lower than any online political community.

3 - Transaction fees are charged per transaction so that donating to multiple candidates/groups within one transaction maximizes the money that goes to the candidates/groups.

4 - Candidates can utilize freeople.com tools to completely run their online fund raising effort if they choose. Or just utilize it as an additional avenue for fund raising.

5 - Freeople provides candidates with complete FEC compliant donor records.

Remember donations can be set up for groups in a fashion similar to "chip-in" as well.

Ultimately the goal is to provide tools for candidates seeking office and grassroots groups, by helping them reduce campaign expenses and maximize their interactivity with each other and potential voters.

All of that plus an online community with articles, blogs, forums, chat room, comments, candidate rating system, and a member point system for participating within the site.

Yeah... I kinda like it, can you tell. :-)

Hopefully there will be no further site problems, but as with most new websites with extensive features such as these there is bound to be some initial growing pains.

Enjoy!

So does freeople take any of the money? Because #2 either means that or is talking about something else that I don't quite understand.

Two comments to be absolutely clear ...

First, there is no such thing as a 0% credit card transaction fee. Credit card companies are in business to make money.

They make money off of Freeople and they make money off of all contributions (including all of Ron Paul's $30M). There is no getting around this. They take a percentage + a per transaction fee + they charge Freeople a monthly maintenance fee and monthly statement fees.

The point about being the lowest is we've gotten a great credit card transaction rate.

Second, we are a private for-profit business. However we're not in this to try to get rich. We're offering a service to make sure people can get elected to office and groups have a place to have their activities publicized and funded. The amount Freeople gets is minuscule in comparison to what the credit card company is bringing in.

What's the % of each?

What's the % of each?

I understand your curiosity, but I cannot disclose the exact percentages of each. Obviously anyone who signs up on the site will have the total percentage as part of their terms, but I can't offer the breakdown.

I will say this -- I have invested thousands and thousands of my own dollars into this project, and countless hours, easily working 16-18 hours a day, 6 and 7 days a week. It will be quite a long while before I'm even close to breaking even with this investment ... I hope others can appreciate that. I have made a huge personal commitment to this effort, and I haven't issued stock, and I haven't looked to rip money off of others anywhere along the way. It has never been my intent.

I can absolutely say though there is no other online political community that offers a lower rate than we do. I should know, I did all the research before starting this project. If you can find a better one than what we have to offer, I'd sure like to know. You can check out some of these yourself:
