Hi Christine,

Ron Paul himself discouraged people from writing his name on the ballot.

Also he has said "It's not about the man, it's about the message"...so don't you think it's a better idea to vote for a liberty candidate like Baldwin?

I very much doubt Ms. Smith would support Baldwin's brand of protectionism, collectivism (anti-gay marriage/adoption, a "Christian nation"), or the CPs sermonizing platform telling everyone how to live (abortion, gambling, drugs, porn). Doesn't sound very "liberating" to me.

This is a prime example of why the Libertarian Party has not, is not, and may never be a significant force on the national political stage. We are, by nature, anarchists, and that anarchy will prevent us from unifying behind a single political candidate. We are the champions of the perfect, refusing to see that political progress is made one step at a time, refusing to compromise even one iota of our "perfect" principles in order to make inroads into a political system that has been engineered to keep us out.

Thanks, Christine, for you insights and commentary over the years, for your leadership, and for your committment. I, too, have been an active and vocal supporter of Ron Paul for many years and like many, wish that he would consent to be our candidate. But Ron is a pragmatist. He understands that he is more valuable serving in Congress and in his committees than being banished and punished by the Repuglicans for joining us.

Unfortunately your choice to write Ron's name in, rather than vote for our party's nominee (a man who I know personally to be a committed, dedicated, and honest libertarian) demonstrates once again why we will continue to be labeled "Losertarians." We each have a choice to make, vote for our party's candidate in a continuing effort to strengthen the party, convert other voters to our cause and beliefs, and put libertarian candidates in office by winning elections, or to take "perfect" principled stands, forever being outside the halls of political power.

Exactly.

Wonderful message, Christine.

Ron Paul doesn't like the idea of him as a write-in candidate, and I don't see it as logical. I voted for Ron Paul in the primary. I can still say I voted for him. And I'll respect his wishes in November and still vote for a liberty-minded candidate.

People say writing-in Ron Paul is the same as not voting, but what if some of us would otherwise not vote than vote for any of the candidates on the ballot? I don't think I can support Barr, and though I like Baldwin, I barely know much about him and would not be surprised if I read some pretty iffy proposals by him.

I do believe not voting is a defensible action, in which case I think writing in Ron Paul, even if that vote is thrown away, is a defensible action. Though, if on Nov 4 you could make a few bucks instead of going to the polls, I'd say make the money and donate it to the CFL. That's far better for the movement than a single vote. ;)

That argument was never posed/torn apart before. Barr is also an ex-CIA neo-con right?

I kind of wish you guys would leave the forum.

lol. Not at all.

And I'm not Ron's lapdog anyway. I'll vote how I choose. He has chosen not to endorse Balwin or Barr. Even if he had, Paul still gets the vote.

I don't know if I can vote for Barr so I will probably either write in Ron Paul or write "abolish position."
