Digg will be down for a brief period, while we make some changes.
While not digging, the digg crew recommends:

The Comptroller General is making a tour of the United States telling people face to face this very thing. It's called the Fiscal Wake Up Tour, coming to a town near you:

He always talks about the government's fiscal crisis so it shouldn't be too hard. I'll look for one in a few hours if no one has found one by then.

I know this will sound really radical, but we need to make personal bankruptcy a crime in this country. Make it an imprisonable offense, and send the debtors to work off their debt doing hard labor. How can we expect our Congress to pass budgets that are balanced when we have a society of citizens who max out on their credit cards, get mortgages they KNOW they might not be able to pay off, and then declare bankruptcy and start all over again? Until the citizens themselves feel some sort of fiscal responsibility for themselves, they will never expect the same level of accountability from the federal government. The net worth when you consider debt of most Americans is much less than that of people in Third World countries, who can't afford to go into debt and instead live within their means.

I don't mean this particular exasperation, but the general long term dollar/market meltdown. In the video the coming mortgage crisis is alluded to.
